If you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, take it from a comic book nerd like me, there are some books you just HAVE to read. If you want some great movie tie-ins and backgrounds on your favorite characters, these are the ones for you. Ideally, I would love to convince you all to go to your local comic book shop or look online and pick up every single issue that any of the Guardians appear in – but that is asking A LOT, I know. So I put together 5 of my favorite comic books (OK, a few are trade paperbacks) that any Marvel Cinematic Universe fan should pick up.

My girls and I love reading. We sit together every night and they each pick a couple of books to read. One book that seems to always be chosen lately is Happy Dreamer. I am totally OK with reading this over and over because it really teaches kids a great lesson – that you can be whatever you want to be! This is a must have book for any family with young kids.

It is finally almost here guys, the best time of year. When the flowers start to bloom and it becomes FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! This day is always the first Saturday of May and I get excited for it every year. Just head to your local comic book shop and grab yourself a stack of free comics! If you are already a comic book reader, or thinking about starting to read them, this is the day for you!

I love to read. Before I had kids I would spend countless hours reading each week. I can easily get lost in a good book and spend all of my free time reading it until I was done. Well, since having kids this has gotten tougher for me. My free time has been reduced to maybe an hour a day – but I still try to find the time to read. Especially when I come across a good book. That is why I made the time over the last few weeks to read Momotaro: Xander and the Dream Thief. Disney Publishing sent me an advance copy and I was super excited to check it out!

My girls love The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That – it is one of their favorite educational shows. My husband and I love it too because they really do learn from it. I am blown away at times with what they tell us after watching a couple episodes. We all love space so we were super excited to get The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Space! We popped it in right away and we all enjoyed watching it (I even learned a thing or two). This series is great for young kids and parents alike.

It’s opening day at Mr. Fungo Fungi’s magnificent amusement park, Plantasy Land…and The Rootlets couldn’t be more excited! With special surprises and newly sprouted rides, this is sure to be the greatest day ever! But when The Rootlets arrive at the park, they realize that something is terribly wrong. Plantasy Land is in trouble! Someone—or something—is destroying the park. Could it be The Great Zucchini, Mr. Fungi’s new magician? Or could there be an even greater danger lurking beyond the park? Most of all, can The Rootlets trust their new super rootabilities to help them save their favorite place on the planet?

Last week I got an amazing surprise package in the mail. Kelly Clarkson (yes, THE Kelly Clarkson) sent me a couple of autographed copies of her new book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby. But that’s not all! We also got two of her plush singing River Rose dolls and a personal note – yup, a personal note. She told me that she has visited my website (eek!) and told me that she loves my Fun Gift Guides. I was thrilled when I opened it and could barely wait to surprise my two young daughters. We love to read together so they were really excited about a new book – and of course the singing doll to go with it.

Before going fishing one day, Ethan eats his favorite breakfast – pancakes. As his mom explains how his pancakes are made with help from the sun, clouds, rain, animals, and farmers, Ethan sees the world in a new way. While playing outside, Ethan decides to create a big splash by throwing a can in the lake and accidentally contaminates the environment. Time passes and one day Ethan notices that his pancakes taste different. Realizing his decision to make a big splash caused a problem which affected his food, Ethan enlists the help of his friends to correct his mistake. Do Ethan and his friends fix the taste of the pancakes? What do they learn in the process?

We are a Disney family, as you might have already discovered. My girls love to read and one of their favorite subjects is none other than the Disney Princesses. My oldest went off to Kindergarten this year and my husband and I knew we were going to get her a personalized Disney book as a gift. Then fate struck and Put Me In The Story released a special personalizable book called Dream Big Princess, what could be more perfect than that for a 5 year old who is heading off to “big girl school”.
