Mr. & Mrs. Smith Prime Video series reimagines the popular film, opening up a whole new world in this spy thriller meets rom com.

Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith delivers a lot of fantastic action sequences but mostly works because of the incredible casting of leads Maya Erskine and Donald Glover. The two work flawlessly together, making it easy for viewers to become invested in the Smiths.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is similar to the popular film, however the ground rules are a bit different this time around. John and Jane Smith are matched by the company and are well aware that they are both spies. In fact, they do missions together, which creates a unique dynamic that is exciting for viewers to see. While they don’t start out romantically involved, it doesn’t take long before sparks start to fly.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is part spy thriller, part rom com, combining the two genres into something truly special. This is a very funny series, but it is also deeply emotional. Thanks to brilliant writing, it fires on cylinders and just continuously gets better.

Maya Erskine and Donald Glover have incredible chemistry, no matter if they are in tune with each other or out of sync. This series doesn’t work without strong leads, and that is exactly what they are.

They aren’t the only ones absolutely crushing their roles though, Mr. & Mrs. Smith has a lot of surprising and exciting guest actors that appear throughout the series. We don’t want to give any away, but trust us when we tell you this is a star studded cast.

There are many, many intense moments throughout the first season that will have those watching on their edge of their seats. These poor people cannot catch a break, although I suppose that is what they signed up for. So much so that every episode feels as if it has extremely high stakes.

Probably its only issue is that it jumps forward in time a lot, which can be a little jarring at first. It does eventually settle in, but the time skips will have viewers thinking they might have missed something and even possibly going back to the previous episode to make sure they didn’t.

The point of all of this is surely to keep things entertaining while only hitting the most important beats of the Smiths’ relationship with one another. Giving the highlights, so to speak. However, it can be a bit confusing at times.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith wraps up extremely well with an intense finale and a cliffhanger that will have viewers screaming at their televisions for season two. And that is the beauty of this series. There could be another season, or they could just leave us all wondering what exactly happened in those final few moments.

This show has opened up a whole new, spy filled, world with the potential for many more stories. We could follow different John and Jane pairings, explore these two further, or even dive into the company itself. There can, and should, be more.

Maya Erskine and Donald Glover shine both together and individually in this spy thriller meets rom com, which reimagines the film in a unique and fun way.
