Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story allows fans to dive into the Queen’s past to learn more about her, and her relationship with King George.

For Bridgerton fans who have been eager for more, look no further than Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. While this is set in the past, for the most part, it offers so much insight to the story we already know and love. Queen Charlotte comes off in a certain way during the series, and now we know why.
This six episode series flies by as it dives into the how and why of Queen Charlotte, and her great love with King George. Viewers are able to explore the start of their relationship, and the development of his madness, which is only lightly touched on in Bridgeton. From the moment she is betrothed to him, right up until the present, this show reveals all angles of what they went through, and their deep dark secrets.
This is the perfect length for a sub-story like this and makes you fully appreciate Queen Charlotte for who she is. If you aren’t wiping away tears in the final moments of this series, you probably weren’t paying attention.

India Amarteifio as Young Queen Charlotte and Corey Mylchreest as Young King George have an unmatched chemistry that allows you to instantly believe in them and their relationship. Viewers will be right there beside them, rooting for them in their darkest moments. It is easy to understand why Charlotte becomes as hardened as she is — she was forced to. You will also want to reach through the screen and give George a hug. Trust me, he will need one many times over.
These two actors are phenomenal in these roles, and are why Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story works as well as it does. If there is no love between these two, or they don’t feel like a real couple, there is no heart in the story. And there is plenty of heart in this story.

In true Bridgerton fashion, there are some hot and steamy moments — especially while Charlotte and George are trying to conceive. These scenes will certainly get the blood pumping, much like those in the first season of Bridgerton. It isn’t just a lovefest though, there is a lot of drama that seeps in.
Of course, the sets and costumes are just as stunning as the main series as well. It truly feels like we are back in time as this is a well pulled off period piece, which is to be expected considering how well Bridgerton does it.

The Queen’s story isn’t the only one being showcased in this show, however. Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton play a big part as well. The time they are going through is the “great experiment” where they see if two different kinds of people can be together, meaning the color of Charlotte’s skin. This brings in a few touchy moments, but also allows the series to offer a deeper meaning on things. This is how Lady Dansbury’s trials and tribulations are also weaved into the series. The politics of it all offer a lot of things to think about.
When it comes to Violet Bridgerton, there is a quick mention of what her children are up to, likely to give a hint at what we will see in Bridgerton season 3. We learn of how she is feeling now that her husband has passed, and if she is ready to move on or not. These two ladies have some truly funny moments together.
The way this series bounces between the past and present is done seamlessly, and that is not an easy feat to pull off.

This series has a lot of humor to it, almost always perfectly placed. But at the center it is a love story. One that is absolutely heartwarming, but also heartbreaking. The things that Charlotte and George endure together prove just how strong she is. Although, we see her in her softest moments as well, which is what makes viewers able to appreciate and adore her for who she is.
George is strong as well. He will do anything for his love, even if it means losing her. And that right there…that is true love. And that is what will fill your heart with joy as you watch this series, but also with pain, because of how it all plays out.

Overall Thoughts
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a love story for the ages. It tells Queen Charlotte’s story in a way that allows fans to appreciate her for who she is. They will understand how she came to be, and her story with George. It will make your heart sing with glee, while ripping it out simultaneously. If you don’t start sobbing at the line “you and me” whenever you hear it from here on out, you simply do not have a heart.
While it isn’t perfect, it is a quick watch that will have you glued to the television from start to finish. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a great way to keep yourself occupied while you wait for the next season of the original series, which is hopefully coming soon.
