The Boys has wrapped up its season 3 with a perfect finale, which was just the cherry on top to a near perfect season.

Warning: Spoilers for The Boys Season 3 Episode 8 Ahead

Every week The Boys seemed to top itself and the finale was no different. Through the course of this season we had more action then the previous two seasons but it somehow still elevated the drama side of things. Before talking about the season as a whole, we have to talk about that absolutely epic, grand, and honestly perfect finale.

Starting it off with the elephant in the room, Noir’s death. Most fans saw this one coming especially after the massive characterization through this season but it was perfectly executed. Many of us thought that Soldier Boy would be the one to kill him but nope, Homelander got Noir right through the gut. Jaws were on the floor but that was only the beginning because the epic final battle was yet to happen.

Queen Maeve teams up with The Boys and they get into Vought Tower. Homelander tries to convince Soldier Boy that they should team up, and uses Ryan as bait. Fair play and honestly had everyone convinced that Soldier Boy might actually turn. But the reoccurring theme of the show with fatherhood comes back around and Soldier Boy calls Homelander a disappointment. The grin on Butcher’s face said everything, and that is when carnage started.

But as Soldier Boy is about the explode Butcher has the make the choice between Ryan and killing Homelander, and this creates a whole other battle in the show, Soldier Boy vs Butcher. There isn’t much specifically to say about the fights but what is so great about the show is their ability to write in key dramatic character moments into these huge and grand fights.

Moments of Hughie empowering Starlight, Maeve getting whatever revenge she can on Homelander, MM finally getting Solider Boy (for now), and much more really show that the drama is at the core of the story. Of course the choreography is great and this finale fight is one of the best in all of superhero television. Even with a lower end budget they do the most they can — really bringing this entire season together well.

The fight wraps up with Soldier Boy about to explode and a injured Maeve tackles him out of the window and saves the day. We see later that she is alive but of course lost her powers and is heavily injured. Her arc is definitely done for and she will hopefully get to live a good life with Elena on a farm.

Butcher had taken a dose Temp-V before the final fight, which makes him pass out, leading to us finding out that he has 12-18 months to live. Starlight retires from the suit, finally becoming on the The Boys. Soldier Boy is put back to sleep in a gas chamber.

But most interestingly, Homelander introduces Ryan to the world. In this a political protestor on the other side throws a can at Ryan and Homelander lasers his face off. There is a huge silence but then Todd, Janine’s step dad, starts to cheer, and Homelander realizes that he is truly the most powerful being and he can do WHATEVER he wants.

Now there is always a lot to predict about the future seasons but Season 3 of The Boys has cemented the show as one of, if not, the best comic book shows of all time. The writing, action, and character moments through this show have been spectacular and if Season 4 keeps this up, it could be one of the best shows of all time.

    About The Boys Season 3

It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into the Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first Superhero: Soldier Boy.

The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. It’s the seemingly powerless against the super powerful.

Season Three of The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Jensen Ackles.

The Boys Season 3 is streaming on Prime Video now.
