Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm is one of those movies that you will love or hate. Not as good as the first one but still very nice!

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm hits Amazon Prime Video tomorrow October 23rd and it is one of those movies you are going to love or hate (probably). Personally, I loved it! I was laughing and shaking my head as Sacha Baron Cohen, this time joined by Maria Bakalova (who plays his daughter), shed light on issues we have in this country. Not just political stuff about Trump, Pence, and Giuliani, but also about how women are treated.
As a mom of two girls and woman myself, this part really stuck with me. Of course it is exaggerated, but Borat says women from Kazakhstan are not allowed to drive or own businesses. For the majority of the movie Borat is trying to make his daughter attractive to men with power. So they make her blond, put a lot of makeup on her, and even discuss getting her plastic surgery for her face and breasts.

The words Borat uses are that he wants her to be so beautiful that the man will not return her. Those are some hard words to hear and honestly, they don’t sound too far off which is sad. Society as a whole puts a lot of pressure on women. We are scrutinized over every little thing about our appearance. All too often our opinions are not cared about unless we are nice to look at. And even then, who knows if the person really cares.
Honestly this was my favorite part of the movie. Will it change things? Probably not. But it was nice to get that out there. The way that Rudy Giuliani acted around the actress in this film was disgusting and hard to watch. He even tells her to give him her address and phone number before reaching in his pants. Gross.

Is This Movie For Everyone?
Sacha uses this film to address politics, which should be expected of it. That being said, there will likely be some people out there that do not enjoy this movie because of it. Me? I was having a grand old time laughing — because if you can’t laugh, you will cry, right?
There are a lot of digs at Trump supporters and those that believe the virus is a hoax. The character of Borat listens to and trusts these people, but it is clear that Sacha is making fun of them. So if you fall into that category and cannot genuinely laugh at yourself, you might want to skip this one.

Overall Thoughts
If you were not a fan of the first Borat movie chances are you will not enjoy this one. It is more of the same, but this time his daughter joins him. I personally loved the addition of her and the storyline about the treatment of women that comes with her. I think that Sacha is very good at bringing issues to light, and getting genuine reactions from people.
Sure, some of these people just had to have been plants, but some of them weren’t. I love his crazy antics and they helped me laugh about our current situation. If I am not laughing, I will be crying, so this was a welcome movie.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is slow at parts, and some of the jokes miss, but overall it was a really good time for me. It seems to make fun of several groups of people, which anyone should expect, especially after seeing the trailer.
The actual plot of the film is a good one — Borat is going to give his daughter as a gift to Pence in order to bring honor back to his country, or at least get them in on Trump’s good side. Along the way there are a whole bunch of antics, but also some very real (and disturbing) discoveries. The ending has a bit more heart to it than I expected, and I almost found myself with a tear in my eye.
