Raised By Wolves Season One Review

The first season of HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves might have some pacing issues, but it is still action packed and something all sci-fi geeks will love! Not to mention that cliffhanger will have you begging for season two.

HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves sucked me in with the first episode and my interest just kept growing from there. Sure, there are some pacing issues with this show, but in the end, it is more than worth a binge watch! The season finale drops on October 1st, and trust me, it is going to leave you begging for more.

Don’t worry, I will keep the spoilers for the season to a minimum, and reveal absolutely no spoilers about the finale — other than the fact that it is action packed, reveals some pretty heavy things, and well, it leaves us with a major cliffhanger. I sure hope there is a season two in the works because I need answers.

If you missed it, here is what I thought of the
Raised By Wolves premiere episode.

The premise of this show is very science fiction — which is one of my favorite genres so I am totally here for it. There is a religious war on Earth that leaves it nearly inhabitable. An atheist sends Mother and Father to a new planet to raise children and start a new colony. When religious soldiers also show up on this planet, things get interesting.

Mother takes their children in an attempt to raise them as part of her colony. There are many complicated issues on both sides and it seems like a religious war could break out again. Throughout the season there are a lot of interesting comparisons to what happened back on Earth. Many are warped by religion, or lack there of, and people change.

On Point Acting

Amanda Collin (Mother) and Abubakar Salim (Father) both give stellar performances throughout the entire season. They both play androids and I can only imagine how difficult that would be. To barely show any emotion in almost every single scene, wow. I was beyond impressed with the two of them every time they were on screen. They somehow made me feel for them. My heart went out to them both for different reasons.

Two other main characters that stand out in this series are Marcus, played by Travis Fimmel, and Sue, played by Niamh Algar. These two have a deep dark secret that they are hiding from not only the people they travel with, but also from their son. Their determination to keep this from being exposed is clearly a driving force for them — and it seems that they both have different reasons for this.

There are also a fair amount of child actors in Raised By Wolves and I have to say, I was impressed by them. Specifically by Winta McGrath, who plays Campion, and Felix Jamieson, who plays Paul. Quite often children seem to overact, but that isn’t the case with these two.

Overall Thoughts

The first season of Raised By Wolves in ten episodes long, each clocking in at about one hour. And it is more than worth the binge-watch of ten hours to see this series through. Yes, there are some pacing issues and some dull moments in the series, but that is to be expected from something in its first year.

By the time the season hits episode six, the pacing issue seems to be a thought from long ago. The last half of the season had me on the edge of my seat. It is action packed and full of suspense. Not to mention some crazy twists and turns. The season finale itself is pretty epic, and that cliffhanger? It will have you begging for more!
