Doom Patrol Season Two Episode Four Recap & Review

Doom Patrol season two jumped right back into the strange world we love and episode four is no different. Here’s a recap and review.

doom patrol season two

Doom Patrol season two dropped us right back into that strange world of theirs, and episode four continues that. If you have not yet seen this show I highly recommend it. Even if you know nothing about the comic books, this show is more than worth a watch.

Below is a recap, and my review, for season two episode four.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Doom Patrol season two, episode four.

Doom Patrol season two episode four is titled Sex Patrol and it just might be my favorite episode yet. If you recall earlier this season Dorothy dropped Danny (the sentient street who was, at the time, a brick). He broke in half and she is very worried that he will not be able to grow back into a street.

In order to help with this dilemma Niles enlists the help of Flex and the Dannyzens, who I was thrilled to see again. No one seems very optimistic, but they insist on trying to pump Danny up, as best as they can. And what better way to pump someone up than with a party?!

When the party isn’t working, Dorothy sings “Pure Imagination” while Niles accompanies her on the piano. That seems to spark something in Danny as a door is thrown open to a room where a sign changes from “Get Well Danny” to “Thank you, Dorothy.”

The Party Gets Turned Up A Notch

Meanwhile, Jane is still trapped inside herself by her other personalities. They gave her the ultimatum to leave Niles if she wanted to remain the one in charge and, well, she ended up in jail cell inside herself. When Scarlet Harlet, one of her personalities takes over, she joins in the party.

Before things are stepped up a notch, Dorothy is sent off to bed. Which is a good thing because things get a little bit crazy. Rita is looking for clarity so she can control her powers, and she goes to Flex. She wants him to give her a … release… so to speak – just as he did last season.

But when he does, she has something of a mental block. And we see a new villain come into play. One that seems to have the same powers she does. At the same time, Niles gives Cliff ecstasy so that he can actually feel things. And oh yeah, Cyborg is back.

Dorothy keeps hearing voices in her head and is persuaded to get out of bed and join the party. She is doing all sorts of things she is not supposed to do — and even takes a sip of a vodka drink. The “sex-man” end up showing up and then things really get weird. They are trying to block paranormal sex from happening and it turns out the villain that came to the house is a sex demon.

What happens next? Well you need to just watch it for yourself. But let’s just say it is NOT for kids (not that any of this show is but… this episode most certainly is not).

Some Actual Lessons In This Episode

Even though this show is insane, strange, and just downright weird, there are some actual lessons to be learned. This episode touches on self hatred and doing what makes you happy. Larry is struggling with a lot in this episode. After seeing his son and attending his other son’s funeral, he really has a lot on his mind.

Dorothy discovers she was actually in a prison with Danny and that he was not just a friend. Danny decides to no longer take the form of a street — and he grows from a brick into a tire. The start of a new journey. The Dannyzens will go along with him, to spread the word that everyone is welcome somewhere.

Doom Patrol Season Two Episode Four: Sex Patrol

When the Dannyzens throw a massive party at Doom Manor to resuscitate Danny the Brick, Dorothy longs to join the festivities and experience life as a grown-up. As the party rages on, Rita asks Flex Mentallo (guest star DEVAN CHANDLER LONG) to help unleash her full potential – which has some dangerously racy consequences.

About Doom Patrol

A re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities–but also left them scarred and disfigured.

You can watch Doom Patrol on HBO Max!
