During the Deadpool & Wolverine press conference Michael Lee from That’s It LA asked Director Shawn Levy what inspired the inclusion of Stray Kids on the film’s soundtrack, however, he passed the question onto co-writer and star, Ryan Reynolds.

What Inspired Stray Kids On The Deadpool & Wolverine Soundtrack

Ryan says that inlcuding Stray Kids on the soundtrack has more to do with South Korea. “South Korea understands how to make gigantic global impressions and culture, through film, through music, art of any kind, there’s something about whatever the wind is blowing through Seoul and its surrounding areas, that just is sticky to culture.” He goes to to say that K-pop is one aspect of that.

Years ago Stray Kids did a Deadpool inspired music video, which Ryan saw and thought was phenomenal. “Then I reached out to to one of the members and he and I became fast digital friends. Now we’ve met in person.”

Ryan Reynolds then explains the initial plan was to have Stray Kids appear in the film, but with the SAG strike happening, and so many other issues, it became logistically impossible.

Shawn Levy adds, ” A Deadpool soundtrack is always unique. It’s something that is so Ryan based. His taste is all over the place and Deadpool movies always have a soundtrack that makes no sense on paper, because it’s so diverse and disparate, but it just feels right in the movie. And the soundtrack of this one, which includes our track from Stray Kids, is no different.”

Deadpool & Wolverine comes to theaters on July 26th.
