Reginald the Vampire Season 2 Cast Interviews

Tessa Smith: What are you most excited for Reginald the Vampire fans to see in season 2?
Mandela Van Peebles: I think we have so many new and exciting characters to unlock in season two. I’m even excited and I was there, but I’m just the audience and excited to get to dive back into the universe again. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. We still have all the great energy that the characters from season one brought to it, we just have more now, and a lot of new exciting twists and turns and people to discover.
Em Haine: There’s a lot going on. I’m really excited for people to see Claire’s growth this season, played by Thailey Roberge. She gets the finger lightning going, it’s so cool. And oh my gosh, she’s got such an amazing few episodes. And one really big one. She kills it. I’m so proud of her. I feel like I’m her big sister, or mom, or something. I’m always just like, Baby, you’re so good. You’re a star, you’re a star. But she’s so great. And then there’s some new characters too, that are going to be so cool.
Savannah Basley: There’s so much I’m excited for everybody to see besides Angela’s transformation. You get to see a different side of Angela, which I’m really excited for everybody to see. Angela was very, she was quite mean and angry in the first season. A little bit. This season, you get to see her be more of a team player, which is really nice. Reluctantly, but she’s definitely a team player. Besides that, I think I’m excited for everybody to see all the fun new characters that we got to bring in. I got to have a lot of fun scenes with a lot of those new characters. So that’s just really fun.

Tessa Smith: I imagine you all became a family filming season 1. What was it like bringing in new characters and actors for Reginald the Vampire season 2?
Mandela Van Peebles: It’s a lot of fun because we’ve, like you said, kind of created a friendship, a group, and now the enemies come into play. On set, we’re all friends. But it’s nice to see the new characters and see how they fit in with us all. And it’s fun. What I love about Reginald the Vampire is it’s not just a drama, it’s not just comedy, it’s not just horror, we get a little bit of everything. So to be on set, whether it’s your scene or not, an just soak it in and see what the other actors are able to do, and their ranges, is awesome. Because you really get to play with range in our show, which I find really interesting. It keeps things dynamic.
Em Haine: Oh, man, it’s just so fun. Because, as an actor, you’re so happy to be at work because we all love our job. So you see a new person and it’s almost like the first day of school and they’re probably a little nervous, and we’re all like, Hey, buddy, get in here. It’s such a good vibe on set. I think that’s what you see in the chemistry. We’re all just having fun and we love each other. The script is fun, and we get to do so many adventures this season that I’m so stoked for. It was really cool to have some fresh blood, but if they are angels, do they have blood? We’re gonna get meta here.
Savannah Basley: Working with everybody, like the the series regulars and stuff, is always really great. It’s always a fun time. We goof off a lot of the time. There’s a lot of like, Guys focus. But I also really enjoy working with guest stars, it’s one of my favorite things. They always just come in with such an energy, like they’re just so ready to go. They always have like their lines down, they know exactly what they want to do for their characters. And then also, for a lot of the comedic stuff, they have different comedic energy and different comedic timing that I’m not used to. So it’s always a blast when I get to work with them, because they really do crack me up. I just don’t know what they’re gonna say, or how they’re gonna say it. So it’s a lot of fun. It really is like playing. You really get to play when the guest stars are on.
Tessa Smith: What was it about Reginald the Vampire that drew you to want to be a part of it?
Mandela Van Peebles: I had never really gotten the opportunity to play someone who had been centuries old before. So I was instantly kind of like, oh, cool, I can carry on swag from my granddad and say stuff he would tell me, but still be myself and bring me into it. It’s definitely provided to be an interesting opportunity, to just flood Maurice with all kinds of voices from past generations, and even the gold tooth idea. I was just doing the tape and I was like, I think I would just put this in and do one like this, and they loved it. It’s a collaborative effort. It’s nice. A lot of fun. I think we have a great crew, a great cast, and the writers, the producers, everybody. It’s not one person’s baby. It takes a village and we are trying to make a good baby.

Tessa Smith: It feels like we are in the time of the vampire right now. Do you have a favorite vampire story, movie, or book?
Mandela Van Peebles: That’s what is so interesting to me about it. All kinds of cultures allude to the idea of a vampire. All cultures talk about dragons or mermaids and just wondering what part of it is maybe true at some point and where’s the fiction coming in? Then, with this project, creating our own mythology, I think that’s really cool. I love that part. There’s so many cool vampires. There’s so many that I enjoy. I have been enjoying Interview with the Vampire. That’s done well, giving a new twist to what the word vampire means, similar to Reginald. I’m so tired of the same story over and over again. I love that Reginald isn’t per se, a sequel to something that we’ve already seen. It has the source material with the books, but even with that, I’ve read the books. I’m like, well, Johnny wrote that I’m the old vampire. Jeremiah wrote that I’m not so human. We’re all kind of playing around with it, and creating the mythology is really fun.
Em Haine: I am a huge Buffy fan. That is how I know vampires really well. I also watched True Blood. Not all of it. Buffy, my older sister, she’s not really my sister but I call her my sister, growing up. she had an Angel statue. She had the comic books. She was obsessed. She was nerdy about it. Then I obviously fell in love with it because I got to see it. Every time I was over there, we’d be watching it. I’ve seen Buffy I don’t even know how many times. Probably 30 times at least, the whole series.
Savannah Basley: This one’s so hard because I’ve always been a vampire girl since I was younger. I love just the whole vampire lore. I love the Anne Rice vampires. I love the more demonic vampires, like from Priest. I was even a Twilight fan. That was less of the vampire lore and more of the romantic thing as a little tween, you know? But I would definitely say, and I say this all the time, Aaliyah’s Akasha from Queen of the Damned. Say what you want to say about the movie, but Aaliyah, Oh my goodness. I was like, Who is this? The way that she moved. I’m not a dancer like her, but I tried to put in a little bit of Akasha. Those costumes looked amazing on her. That greenish glow that they gave her. The way that she just moved. She moved like water.

About Reginald the Vampire Season 2
Reginald Andres finally got his life together – when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesn’t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he’s not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend.
A show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.
