Abigail is absolutely bonkers and easily the most fun you will have at the movies all year. See this one on the biggest screen possible.
Abigail promises to be an insanely fun horror flick just from the trailer, but does it deliver? The answer to that is absolutely. This is easily one of the best movies of the year, and is ceratinly the most fun you will have in theaters. Not only is the cast incredible, and boy oh boy do they all commit, the story is full of twists and turns, putting its own spin on a vampire movie.
In Abigail, a carefully selected group of criminals are given what seems like a simple mission – kidnap a young girl and hold her for ransom from her rich father. The team, who do not know each other prior to being tasked with this, expect t0 babysit for one night and then be insanely rich by the time the sun comes up.
The thing is, this little girl is going to put up a lot more of a fight than they planned on. It turns out that she is a vampire and she isn’t too thrilled about the fact that they have locked her in this creepy mansion. Slowly, she starts to enact her revenge by taking them out one by one.
Abigail’s ensemble cast is part of the reason this movie works as well as it does. As the story develops, viewers start to learn more and more about these individuals and why they do what they do. Each and every one of them has a past, and their own reason for wanting to participate in the kidnapping, which makes things very interesting. Is there someone that cannot be trusted? Well, that is for the audience to find out.
All of these actors lean one hundered percent into their characters. They know that they are in a wild and fun vampire movie, and they bring their A game. While there are certainly a few standouts – Dan Stevens, Kathryn Netwon, and Melissa Barrera – everyone delivers an unforgettable experience. It is clear that they were all there to have a blast, do some crazy stunts, and get soaked in fake blood, and as an audience member who loves that sort of stuff, I am very appreciative.
Alisha Weir, who plays Abigail, also puts her everything into this role. She gets to play with a whole lot of talented actors, some of the best currently working (RIP Angus Cloud — the world misses your talents), and she never stops standing out when she is on screen.
Just when you think that this movie cannot get any crazier, it does. If you are a fan of the film Ready or Not, then Abigail is for you. It is very similar in tone, and level of blood and gore, but somehow also feels as if it was dialed up to eleven.
Abigail is absolutely bonkers. It might have some predictable moments, but there is still a whole lot of shock and awe weaved in. There are twists and turns that you will not see coming, and even those that you do see coming are a whole lot of fun to watch play out. There is an excessive amount of blood, guts, and gore, but with a movie like this, it would feel like it was lacking if there was ever any less.
The entire cast excels, the story is a blast, the humor is spot on, and the vampire lore weaved in only makes it more entertaining. Abigail is the most fun you will have at the theaters all year, so be sure to see it in a packed theater and on the biggest screen possible. You won’t regret it.
