Scream 6 Ending Explained

Scream VI has a few twists and turns, but mostly it is just a whole lot of bloody kills. The final twist at the end reveals that there are not the standard two Ghostface killers, but rather there are three. They are Quinn, Ethan, and their father Officer Wayne Bailey.

It turns out these three are related to Richie, one of the Ghostface killers from Scream 5. He is the son of Wayne, and brother to Ethan and Quinn. It was Quinn who started the vicious rumor that Sam was the real killer and framed Richie and Amber.

Because Wayne is a Police Officer, it was easy for him to get evidence items from the other Ghostface murders and give to Richie, helping to feed his obsession with Ghostface.

Officer Bailey briefly tries to blame Kirby for the murders, calling Sam and telling her that she was actually fired after experiencing a downward spiral after the events of Scream 5. This is not true, however, and is merely a way to throw suspicion off himself for a brief moment.

Quinn was thought dead, however that was also a distraction. It made it easier for her to fly under the radar and continue murdering. She answered Tara and Sam’s ad to be their roommate allowing her to get close to them. As for Ethan, he rigged the roommate lottery so that he could live with Chad (who is attacked but survives) and get closer to the gang as well.

All three Ghostface killers are killed themselves. Sam sees her father Billy again, much like in Scream 5, who tells her he knows she enjoys killing. She even dons his mask and cape at one point, before killing Officer Bailey.

As everyone is standing outside the theater, it is revealed that Sam was holding on to the mask. She ultimately drops it, leaving it behind.

We know that a Scream 7 is coming from the same writers. With the way that Sam has been acting, it wouldn’t be surprising if she turns out to be a Ghostface in that one, however we hope they don’t go the obvious route and give us something surprising.

Was The Killer Reveal Obvious?

Scream 6 marks the very first time that there were three Ghostface killers. Well, four technically if you count Tony Revolori from the opening sequence. Because of this, the majority of viewers are going to go into this film looking to figure out the standard two killers. So chances are the third killer is going to be a complete shock.

One mistake that Scream VI made was the amount of times it mentions that Quinn’s brother is dead. She mentions it, as does her father, one too many times and it becomes clear to some of the audience that they are out for revenge. This means that the brother they speak of is likely Richie, one of the killers from Scream 5.

Sure, there are other possibilities but considering the ages of Quinn and her father, the most likely is Richie. It also didn’t do the secret any favors by having Quinn’s death passed over so quickly. She was shoved out of a door and then everyone runs away. They never try to revive her which is not normal for the Scream franchise, especially since she seemingly has such a large role in the movie.

The shocking twist comes when a third Ghostface is revealed. It turns out to be Ethan, who was shady enough from the start, but also flies a bit under the radar throughout Scream 6. Because viewers are not looking to place three Ghostface killers in this film, he is probably the most surprising, because Quinn and Officer Wayne Bailey are the most obvious.

Scream 6 is playing in theaters everywhere now.
