In this exclusive interview, the Monster High 2022 new animated series cast discusses the importance of inclusion and more.
The popular franchise, Monster High, launched back in 2010 and is still going strong. Not only was there recently a brand new live action film titled Monster High: The Movie, but a new animated series is premiering on Nickelodeon in the United States on October 28th. We sat down with a couple of the cast members, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green (who voices Clawdeen Wolf) and Courtney Lin (who voices Draculaura), to discuss this iconic franchise and their characters.
Monster High New Animated Series Cast Interview
When asked what they love about their characters, it was easy for them to answer. Lin immediately jumps in saying how much she adores Draculaura. “She’s very similar to me. She’s very competitive. She loves her friends. She loves being a leader. She loves helping people. She has great fashion sense. And I love that she’s really discovering who she is in the series. That’s something that I had to do in my life. So I was really able to bring a piece of myself to her in that way.”
Green has a similar feeling towards her characters, Clawdeen. “I really love that Clawdeen is a natural leader. She’s a leader that is trying to find her own way of leading. And I think that’s really relatable because for myself, that was something that I had to go through as well. I had to kind of figure out how to lead in the way that was effective for myself and for others. Clawdeen is experiencing that in the first season and she’s really fierce. She’s really loyal to her friends. And she fights for what she believes in.”
The Importance Of Inclusion In Monster High
Something that has always been a theme in Monster High is inclusion and representation. The message that shines through this show is to not judge others by their looks, or the fact that they are monsters. It is important to get to know someone and who they are on the inside. This is something that Gabrielle Nevaeh Green loves about the franchise, and why she thinks it is important that kids, and families, watch this series.
“I think it’s really important for kids to know that this show is about inclusivity and diversity. And I think that’s something that the world really needs right now, because our show reflects a lot of individuals that are present, and they are being represented in ways that kids can visually see. And I think that’s really, really important because a lot of kids are visual learners. So if they’re not introduced to it in their real life, with Monster High, this is a gateway for us to promote diversity and promote inclusion. So I think kids are really going to enjoy that and families are really going to enjoy that. And that’s something that is really important to me as an individual — to show that diversity.”
