The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib is available to stream now. Mama’s Geeky spoke exclusively with the baby himself, JP Karliak.
The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib is now on Netflix and in support of the latest in the iconic franchise, we spoke with Executive Producer Brandon Sawyer and the voice of Boss Baby himself JP Karliak. Like the whole franchise, this show is a lot of fun for kids as well as families. In this exclusive interview we discuss continuing the story after Family Business, bringing these characters back to the small screen, and so much more.
When asking Karliak about getting the role of Boss Baby, he admits he was completely shocked. He doesn’t think he does a good Alec Baldwin (we beg to differ) but says he does a great Will Arnett doing an Alec Baldwin.
“It’s partly the sound of the voice, but it’s really about capturing the jokes and the way the jokes land, and the humor of the character. And I just latched on to the audition scene from the original series. It’s when Tim takes Boss Baby out to the car and locks him in the car seat to have a talk with him and Boss Baby’s trying to escape. I just loved the funniness of that and how he’s taunting his brother, like go ahead and try and keep me here, that type of thing. I was just having fun. I left even the callback and was like, this is a fluke. They’re gonna give it to somebody else. And then I got a call and I was shocked. Absolutely shocked. Thrilled.” – JP Karliak
Parents everywhere appreciate when a show that their kids enjoy, is something they can watch as well. Because there are some children’s shows that can be a struggle. But Boss Baby has always been fun for the whole family. When asked the importance of that, Executive Producer Brandon Sawyer explains that the answer is an incredibly selfish one.
“If it’s not fun for me to make, then it’s a miserable job. The hours are long, but it is fun for me to make. So that’s really where it springs from is that I love the show. I love everything I get to do with the show. I love the leeway that DreamWorks and Netflix gives us to make a show about a baby being framed for embezzlement and hide out until the statute of limitations runs out. That’s just never questioned of is that going to work? Like no, we trust you. You’ll make it work. Everybody on the creative team is the same way. If you’re writing on this show, if you’re directing this show, if you’re storyboarding on this show, we’ve surrounded ourselves with people who just have that personality that love things that anybody can enjoy.” – Brandon Sawyer
When asked what his favorite part of this season is, Karliak tells us that it is the running joke of a duck who is called Lumpy… so keep an eye out for him in the series! As for which of his other character he would like to see visit Baby Corp? Hands down it is Green Goblin, who he voices in Spidey and His Amazing Friends. “He would wreak havoc. There would be pumpkin goop everywhere. But Boss Baby would take him down. Boss Baby and Tina would absolutely take him down.”

The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib Review
When the final season of The Boss Baby: Back In Business wrapped up it seemed like there would be no more. Even though things were tied up in a neat little bow, with a heartwarming end for the brothers and their friends, Boss Baby is back with The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib. The premise makes a whole lot of sense, and is a great way to give fans more of the characters they know and love. The season is a full 12 episodes, and while the ending feels like it could be an end, it sure seems like there is even more to come from Boss Baby.
In this series Theodore Templeton is framed for embezzlement and facing a lot of jail time. Realizing the only way he can escape it is to drink the formula and go back to his baby self, he does so. He then heads right to his brother’s house asking him, and his niece Tina, for a little bit of help. In order to escape the statute of limitations he needs to hide out for three to five years — meaning he needs a job at Baby Corp so he can have a steady supply of formula. However, he quickly discovers that things have changed, and he isn’t the same hot shot he used to be.
Season 1 of this show tells a complete story, while still leaving the door open for more. Because of this the pacing is on point, and the story moves along quickly. It is enjoyable for both kids and adults, and all fans of Boss Baby will be happy with what they get. This feels like a fresh take on fan favorite characters, while of course throwing in a handful of new ones.

About The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib
Following the events of The Boss Baby: Family Business Theodore Templeton is framed for embezzlement and forced to revert back to his old Boss Baby self and crash with his brother Tim and his two nieces, brainy big kid Tabitha and fellow Baby Corp employee Tina. Together, Boss Baby and Tina co-lead a new Field Team fighting to increase Baby Love while keeping a new group of arch-nemeses – The Uncuddleables – from destroying Baby Corp itself.
