Some Of Our Stallions is an absolutely hilarious comedy — that brings a lot of heart to the story as well.

    some of our stallions

Some Of Our Stallions is a comedy at the center of it, but there is also a whole lot of heart surrounding the film with fantastic lessons about being yourself, and not judging a book by its cover. Every single person is a little bit crazy, whether they care to admit it or not, and this film focuses on two friends who are perhaps a bit more than a little crazy. However, they have an unbreakable bond, and truly care about each other — and isn’t that what it is all about?

When Beautiful Bill (Carson Mells) and Andy (Al Di) are released from a mental hospital, they have a hard time fitting back into society. After a while, Bill comes up with the idea that they need to have romantic relationships. Well, finding a woman who wants to date a “crazy” man isn’t easy, so they decide to meet women who are just as crazy as they are at a mental healthy facility for women.

Insert Bonnie (Olivia Taylor Dudley) into the story, whom they meet at this facility. Once she develops a relationship with Andy, Bill becomes a bit of a third wheel. Things really take a turn when he decides to rob a bank in order to give Bonnie money and make her like him again.

What Works With Some Of Our Stallions

Some Of Our Stallions works so well because of the level of ridiculous humor that is involved. There are many moments where viewers will find themselves uncontrollably laughing because of the antics these two friends get into. However, this movie is not strictly a comedy. It is also home to several touching, and heartwarming, moments that will have viewers smiling not from laughter, but from happiness. This movie has HEART, which is rare with something so comedic.

Another great part of this movie is putting the mental illness at the forefront of it. All too often the “crazy” character is stuck in the back of a film, and is only there to provide the comedic relief. Not in Some Of Our Stallions. All three of the main characters may be slightly mentally ill, but that doesn’t mean they should be pushed to the side. Their story is important to, and the way that it is done is beautiful. There is so much to love about these characters, and in the end, audiences will find themselves really caring for them.

Some Of Our Stallions is ultimately a story about friendship. Bill and Andy are best friends, they are even friend married, and their relationship is an important one to be displayed. Much like with mental illness, platonic relationships are not usually portrayed like this in movies, so it was really nice to see.

It should be noted that the entire cast was perfectly chosen. Al and Olivia are close friends, and it was apparent with their chemistry on screen together. Bring in Carson and you have a trio that can’t be beat. They all played off each other so well, and do a fantastic job in the film.

What Doesn’t Work With Some Of Our Stallions

There isn’t a whole lot that doesn’t work with this movie, as overall it is a beautiful story that is a joy to watch. If anything, the pacing is a bit off here and there. The film itself starts off in a way that is sure to captivate the audience, and interest them right away, but after the introduction of Bonnie, and the rift starts between Bill and Andy, it can get a little slow. However, it doesn’t take long for it to pick back up again — especially with the bank robbery planning underway.

    Overall Thoughts

Some Of Our Stallions has the right combination of humor and heart. The story is meaningful and interesting — and the journey is hilarious. If you like silly jokes and ridiculous comedy, this movie is for you. The best part about it though is that it tells an important story, and isn’t afraid to shy away from mental illness.

To see these characters who are a little bit crazy at the forefront of a film, and see that they aren’t brought down by labels, is a big deal. So while this movie is funny to the point where you will be laughing until you cry, it will also touch your heart in a big way.

    About Some Of Our Stallions

Beautiful Bill & Andy, newly released from a mandatory stint at a mental hospital, are best friends. Their inability to conform to society at large results in some frightening “acting out.” After their therapist fails at advising them on how to reintegrate back into society, Bill has an epiphany. What they need, he decides, is romantic love. After a disastrous attempt at wooing “normal women,” they realize they need to meet women who are “genuinely crazy” like themselves. So they post up outside of a mental health facility for women.

This is how they meet Bonnie. And though Bonnie and Andy soon fall into a relationship, Bill finds himself playing the part of the third wheel. However, when Bonnie reveals she’s pregnant, Bill sees a chance to get back in her good graces. His ensuing plan to rob a bank and give the proceeds to Bonnie kicks off a years-long series of madcap adventures that challenge not only Bill and Andy’s friendship, but their already tenuous grasp on sanity.

Some Of Our Stallions comes to video on demand July 2nd.
