The Pink Cloud hits very close to home as it is about quarantine life when a deadly pink cloud takes over all of the outside.
The Pink Cloud is a shockingly familiar film, although it is completely on accident. Filmed before COVID it focuses on a toxic pink cloud that takes over the outside world, forcing people to stay inside their homes for years. Giovana and Yago are the main characters of the story who are basically strangers when they end up in quarantine together.
The longer they are stuck inside, the quicker their relationship develops. Although it is not all rainbows and unicorns, they have a lot of fights as well. What got to me the most with this movie is that it hits really close to home since I have been inside for nearly a year now.

What Works With The Pink Cloud
It is shocking to learn that this movie was filmed before the pandemic because it gets so much right. Unfortunately most of us know what it is like to be stuck at home, having deliveries of essential items and food, because the outside world is dangerous. The Pink Cloud perfectly depicts just how small a home can feel when you are stuck inside all day, every day.
There are video calls between friends, but it just isn’t the same. Eventually people start to get on each other’s nerves but when there is no one else to talk to, of course they find their way back to each other. Every aspect of being trapped inside day after day was captured perfectly.
The visuals of the pink clouds were beautiful. Knowing they were deadly but so pretty added another layer to the movie. The score adds a lot of suspense to already intense moments, which helped bring me deeper into the story.

What Doesn’t Work With The Pink Cloud
This movie is only an hour and forty-five minutes long, but it feels a lot longer. Much like it portrays being locked inside, I felt like I was stuck in this movie a bit longer than I could stand. While the story itself is very interesting, there are some pacing issues that drag it down. It also could be due to the fact that I feel like I have been living this way for months now, and this was just a continuation of that.
The ending of this movie is likely to be a debatable one. It frustrated me quite a bit, although I can imagine that some people will enjoy it. I just wish I had gotten more of a definitive ending. Once you watch it, you will know what I am talking about.
Overall Thoughts
The Pink Cloud hit a little too close to home for me seeing as I have basically been inside for a year… but overall I enjoyed it. It really touches on all aspects of quarantine and loneliness. I was completely shocked to find out this was filmed before COVID. They got it right.

About The Pink Cloud
Giovana and Yago are strangers who share a spark after meeting at a party. When a deadly cloud mysteriously takes over their city, they are forced to seek shelter with only each other for company. As months pass and the planet settles into an extended quarantine, their world shrinks, and they are forced to come to terms with an accelerated timeline for their relationship.
With all their other interactions governed by screens, and with the strain of isolation setting in, Giovana and Yago struggle to reinvent themselves and reconcile the differences that threaten to tear them apart.
