Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an insanely fun game that fans of the Spider-Man PS4 game will absolutely love!
I was eagerly awaiting the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales since it was announced, and the more trailers and looks I got at it, the more excited I got. I binge played Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 right before Miles Morales came out and it was the perfect set up. The two games are very similar in gameplay, of course, and I don’t even know that I could choose which is my favorite.
In this video game review of Spider-Man: Miles Morales I will tell you what I love and don’t love about it. But honestly all you need to know is that if you liked the last one, you will like this one!
What I Love About It
There are so many things that I love about Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The fighting style is very similar to Spider-Man, except that Miles has the venom electrical ability, which is actually amazing. It felt so easy to pick the fighting right back up in this one because I played them back to back.
One of my favorite things about this game is how much there is to do. Just like with Spider-Man there are lots of side missions like the crime app, finding Peter’s training, and caches. This make the game so much more interesting, and gives you longer gameplay time as well.
Sometimes things like that can feel repetitive but not in Miles Morales. Quite the opposite actually. I found myself looking forward to extending my gameplay by finding the hidden caches and thwarting crimes around town. But don’t worry, just like with Spider-Man you can open up a New Game+ after and continue on with completing the side missions. As a completionist myself, I always do this when available.
My favorite thing though, was the story. There are twists and turns and big reveals, especially for a video game. I was sucked into the story from beginning to end, and love how even Peter Parker plays a part in it now and then.
What I Don’t Love About It
There are very few things that I don’t like about Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The biggest issue for me is the forced slow walking, that is often an issue when it comes to RPG games like this. It is something that annoyed me about the first Spider-Man game as well.
I understand why it is necessary but I am the type of person that likes to dig in and play a game. And I could spend hours playing, so when I get slowed down by forced slow walking it drives me bananas.
If I had to nitpick the game, my other fault would be that most of the suits don’t really have a game tie in. However, it is fun to collect them all and switch back and forth as you play.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the best games to come out of 2020. It is the perfect follow up to Spider-Man, not just in story, but in gameplay as well. There are tons of side mission to make sure that you get your money’s worth, and this is one that you can play time and time again and still enjoy! There is nothing more fun that swinging through the city and fighting bad guys.
If you enjoyed the first one, you are sure to love this one. And if you haven’t yet played the Spider-Man or Miles Morales game, play them back to back — trust me! They play like a movie and you will have such a satisfied feeling when you finish!
