Godzilla: Tokyo Clash is the perfect addition to your game night — especially if you are a fan of Godzilla and the other iconic Kaiju!
My husband has a thing for Kaiju movies so when I found out there was a Godzilla: Tokyo Clash game where you can play as your favorite Kaiju and battle against others, I knew this was a game he would love. A huge thank you to Funko Games for sending it along!
I knew this game would be fun and that my husband would love it. But I had no clue just how much our whole family would! Players choose between 4 iconic movie Kaiju to play – Godzilla, Mothra, Megalon, or King Ghidorah. Oddly enough there was no arguing about who got to be who, and everyone was happy with their character. Oh, and it is a blast to fight over that King Of Monsters card throughout the whole game!
Each Kaiju Is Different
Each Kaiju card deck features attacks and powers unique to that monster and event cards simulate humans fighting to save their city, which in turn increases the danger to players. I love this part of the game because it means if you play a new Kaiju next time, you need to learn the best way to play them to win. For example, Mothra cannot destroy buildings because she protects the humans. So you need a whole new strategy if you play her after mastering Godzilla.
The different decks bring a lot of diversity into the game, which I am here for it. This makes the game fun to play over and over again! You can stick with the same Kaiju and master their skills, or just switch around to challenge yourself.
Never The Same Game
Godzilla: Tokyo Clash is never the same because you build and destroy a different city every game. The tiles are randomly placed down to create your game board at the beginning, so you never know what buildings will be where. That, plus the fact that different monsters have different skills, makes for new game play each time you play.
Is It OK For Kids?
This game is recommended for ages 10 and up, but I really think that depends on your children. My girls are 7 and 9 and they had no problem with Godzilla: Tokyo Clash. Sure we had to help them out at first, but within the first couple rounds they had mastered it! Honestly, the entire first round was a learning curve for all of us, but we found the groove and now this is one of our favorite games to pull out for game night!
In full disclosure, our daughters’ ability to grasp it so quickly might have a lot to do with the fact that after years of family game nights where my husband and I were bored out of our minds, we graduated to more advanced games. We rarely play games that are for their actual ages anymore — which makes for way more fun game nights for all of us!
