The Baby-Sitters Club is coming to Netflix and it is a must see show! Great for families to watch together and for fans of the book series.
I grew up reading The Baby-Sitters Club books so when I found out there was going to be a show on Netflix, I was hyped! My oldest daughter just turned 9 and I had a feeling this would be a great show for us to watch together. Well, I was right.
The Baby-Sitters Club perfectly captures the nostalgia for old fans while welcoming in new ones. A fun show to watch with the whole family.
She is just like me in that she loves to read. My thoughts were if enjoyed this show, I would dig out all my old The Baby-Sitters Club books for her to read. Well, since watching the Netflix show she has already read a bunch of the books. Her favorite is Claudia, which doesn’t surprise me at all. My daughter is an artistic fashionista just like her!
Modernizing The Baby-Sitters Club
There are a lot of similarities in the show and the books. Of course we have the same characters — all of which are portrayed perfectly. Honestly, it feels like the characters jumped off the pages of their books to come to the screen.
Even though the Baby-Sitters Club ends up using flyers (because of course they did), this show is a bit modernized compared to the books. The idea comes to Kristy when her mother, played by Alicia Silverstone, needs a babysitter but no one is available.
The mention of her babysitting website account being expired, and the inflation of babysitting fees had me laughing. Of course, when the girls do start the club, they discuss social media ads and creating a website. I absolutely love this little bit of modernizing that Netflix threw in.
Appointments are all made in a Google Doc that Mary-Anne handles, but don’t worry, the club still ends up using a landline to book jobs. And a totally 1990’s light up corded phone at that.
Great For Families
One of the things I love most about this series is all of the life lessons for kids to learn while watching it. In one of the episodes Claudia struggles with lying to her parents. And throughout the first season Kristy struggles with her mother getting engaged.
As for it being safe for kids — there is no language or suggestive content that I noticed. My daughter and I really liked it. Even my 7 year old, who isn’t into “real people” shows yet, enjoyed it. The Baby-Sitters Club is a great binge-worthy show for the whole family on Netflix!
About The Baby-Sitters Club
Netflix’s new series THE BABY-SITTERS CLUB is based on the best-selling book series, that follows the friendship and adventures of Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace), Mary-Anne Spier (Malia Baker), Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada), Stacey McGill (Shay Rudolph), and Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez) as the middle-schoolers start their babysitting business in the town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
Rounding out the cast, Alicia Silverstone plays Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the selfless single-mother of Kristy Thomas and love interest of all around good guy Watson Brewer, played by Mark Feuerstein.
Ann M. Martin, the beloved series author and producer on the new series, was the first to conceive the idea of these inspiring young girls with different backgrounds, personalities and opinions that were brought together by a business venture they conceived and bonded through the friendships they forged.
The adaptation of the contemporary dramedy that continues to champion friendship, female empowerment and entrepreneurship was led by Rachel Shukert (Glow) as showrunner and Lucia Aniello (Broad City) as executive producer and director.
