Extraction is nonstop action from beginning to end. If you like war movies, gun fights, and Chris Hemsworth, you are sure to love it!
When I first saw the trailer for Netflix’s new film Extinction, I knew I was going to watch it for two reasons. One, Chris Hemsworth. Two, I love action. Sure, I was able to guess a lot of what happened, but that didn’t ruin the movie. The action delivered for me. And surprisingly, so did the plot.
There were heartfelt moments and I grew to really become invested in Ovi getting home. Hemsworth’s character kicks a lot of ass and well, he isn’t too hard to look at either.
Nonstop Action
Extraction doesn’t take long to get into the action part of the story. Once it starts, it almost never stops. Sure, there are brief moments where they need to stop the shooting and stabbing so they can move the plot along, but it isn’t often.
There are explosions, knife fights, and of course, gun fights. Extraction is very much like a war movie — and I love war movies. There were even times I felt like I was watching a Marvel movie! Which if you know me, that is a rave review.
A Good Plot Too
Here’s the thing… the story line wasn’t lost in all the action. The moments that they stopped and showed the characters, were perfectly done. Some of the conversations between Tyler and Ovi were my favorite parts of the movie. When you get to know these characters, you really root for them.
Sure, Extraction might be about two battling crime lords, but also has some heart to it. When we really dive into Tyler’s past in the military, I might have shed a tear or two. It was a bit predictable, even from the trailer, but that didn’t make it any less of a joy to watch.
I refuse to give major spoilers in this review, but let’s just say the ending is something I didn’t see coming, but I thought it was perfect. Plus, what else do you have to do right now.
Overall Thoughts
Extraction is not only action packed, it has a good story at the core. Not to mention some top notch actors like Chris Hemsworth and David Harbor. I love a movie that has loud explosions and gun fights — which is exactly what this movie has. But during the down times, there are some really great and heartfelt moments. The way that Tyler ends up caring for Ovi as more than a job is predictable, but done well.
It didn’t surprise me one bit to learn that the Russo brothers had a hand in this movie. Sometimes it felt like a Marvel movie and I was waiting for Thor to summon his hammer and kick some ass. Everything the Russos touch is worth a watch in my opinion (have you seen Deadly Class yet?!)
My friend Amanda at Guide 4 Moms says Extraction reminded her of the Bollywood movies she watches — so maybe I should start checking them out.
