There are lots of new Marvel shows coming to Disney+, and I am so excited to see so many of my favorites get their own shows. However, one of my not so favorites is getting her own show, She-Hulk. I suppose it could be worse, it could be Namor…. But seriously, there are few reasons why I am not at all thrilled about this decision. Like all things Marvel though, I am willing to give it a shot.
She-Hulk’s real name is Jennifer Walters. And she is a lawyer. She debuted in comics in 1980 and for some reason, I have never really loved her as a character. I am not sure if it is her attitude on the pages, or what. Every now and then I like something she does in a crossover, but I honestly can’t get through her solo comics. I wish I could! But I just can’t.
How She Got Her Powers
This is something I do like about her. Her origin story makes all kinds of sense (how often are they so out there and far fetched — but I suppose they are comic books after all). Jennifer was in an accident and needed a blood transfusion. Her cousin, Bruce Banner, gave her his blood, and that gave her a “milder” case of the Hulk, so to speak. When she becomes large and green, she maintains most of her personality and intelligence.
She is Often A Lawyer for Superheroes
Something that is kind of cool about She-Hulk is that she sticks up for fellow superheroes. Having the job of a lawyer, helps her defend them when they are in need. And she often understands what they are going through, which is also nice.
That Fling With Thor
I honestly have no idea why, but this relationship really creeped me out. She-Hulk and Thor dated for a bit in the recent Avengers comic book run and it was just… weird. It seemed off and I did not like it one bit. I can’t give you a real reason why, honestly. But it rubbed me the wrong way.
But please, don’t just take my word for it. You might love She-Hulk! And honestly I think that I just might when she comes to Disney+. Because I trust everything that Marvel studios has done, and you know Kevin Feige will have a hand in this stuff too.
Get To Know Her in the Comics
Form your own opinion on She-Hulk, AKA Jennifer Walters, by reading these comics. Like I said, I was never a giant (haha, see what I did there) fan of hers, but in my opinion these are the best comics to read to form your own opinion. Enjoy!
