Say No To Human Shampoos
Did you know that human shampoo is not good for your furry friends? This even includes “gentle” or “baby” shampoo. And I am going to tell you why. Human skin is 10 to 15 cells thick, but a dog’s skin is only 3 to 5 cells thick, making it much more sensitive to acidic ingredients. Human shampoos can contain ingredients that make them as much as 200 times too acidic for dogs’ skin!
Check your bottles of shampoo at home and you’ll likely find that they contain one or more of the following:
- Sulfates: which make shampoos foam up but strip hair of natural oils and irritate skin
- Parabens: preservatives that have been found in breast cancer tumors
- Fragrance: which makes a product smell nice, but irritates skin (especially dog skin)

Works Wonders
If you know anything about a Puggle, you probably know that it is a mix of a pug and beagle. Well, that means that she has some hunter in her. The other day she was outside doing her business and I heard her barking (more than usual). I peek outside and see her chains a skunk – nooooo!!! By the time I got her away, the damage was done. She was one smelly dog! I have never had this problem and wasn’t sure what to do, but I broke out my collection of Rufus & Coco products. First, I used the Oatmeal Bath and then, after she was nice and dry, I used the pamper spray. After a good brush, it was really hard to smell that skunk! I washed her one more time to be safe, but I was really pleased with how well these products worked – and how shiny her coat looked afterwards!
