Andor season 2 brilliantly details the events in the years leading up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s captivating, thrilling, and pretty darn perfect.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is my favorite Star Wars film, hands down, so it should come as no surprise that I loved the first season of Andor, even though I felt like it took a while to get going. Now that we have established the unknown characters and gotten to know more about returning ones, Andor season 2 hits the ground running and never looks back, brilliantly setting up for what is to come in Rogue One.

While the first season revealed the events that took place five years before Rogue One, season two is split into four years, spanning over three episodes each. This allows the momentum to keep moving and the season to stay at a solid pace, never slowing down.

There is a lot happening – think of most of the season as a political thriller – so knowing that each group of three episodes takes place over one year allows viewers to keep track of things easily. It also helps as we inch closer and closer to the devastating things that are to come.

Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor is, of course, at the center of the series; however, there are several other characters that have key roles, and boy do they shine when given their time to. Denise Gough’s Deedra Meero is one of them, especially in the final few episodes. She is one of those characters that fans will surely love to hate – if they do not already do so.

Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael was established as a very important piece of the puzzle in Andor season 1, and he continues that trend in season 2. His relationship with Cassian, his strength and faith in the rebellion, and the things he is willing to do are all a major part of the story this season.

Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothra has her story expanded throughout the season as well. We know where she ends up, but to see the path she took to get there is both thrilling and captivating. That is part of what I love so much about Andor. We know the end result, which means seeing the roads that were taken to get there is that much more exciting.

Then we come to Ben Mendelsohn’s Krennic. One of my favorite villains of all time and a character that can send a shiver down my spine when I simply think of him. The things that he pulls off this season are truly terrifying. Even though he is not in Andor season 2 very often, when he is, he leaves a lasting impression.

Episode 11, in particular, is one that gave me literal chills and made the hair on my arms stand on end. This is Mendelsohn’s best role, in my opinion, which is not said lightly considering he is a phenomenal actor.

Just when I thought there was no way I could love K-2SO any more than I already did, I watched the Andor season 2 finale, and somehow now I do. He has been my favorite droid for some time now, but what he does in Andor season 2, episode 12, had me cracking up. He is a badass, and I love him for it.

I truly believe that because the creatives behind this series knew that they were only going to do only two seasons from the start, and they had a plan for them, it allowed Andor to be one of the best things on television. It seamlessly blends into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with a final few minutes that will leave viewers shook and rethinking everything they know.

There are a lot of great action scenes, as well as heartwarming (and heartbreaking) moments, but at its core, this is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller. You might think you know what is coming, but I promise you, your world is about to be flipped upside down.

    About Andor Season 2

Lucasfilm’s Emmy®-nominated thriller Andor, returns for its long-awaited conclusion on April 22. The second season takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance.

Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Rife with political intrigue and danger, the series is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction—The Death Star—setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film.

Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.

Andor Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on April 22 with three episodes. Each week, three more will be released until the finale on May 13.
