The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild focuses on the fan favorite character voiced by Simon Pegg. In this interview with the Director and Producer they explain — why they chose Buck Wild.

The Ice Age franchise has been around for a long time, and fans are thrilled to see it continuing with The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild. There are so many characters — main characters and supporting characters — that could have been put at the forefront but Simon Pegg’s Buck Wild was the lucky one selected. In an interview with Producer Lori Forte and Director John C. Donkin, Mama’s Geeky gets to the bottom of why he was chosen. The short of it all? Simon Pegg!
“Why wouldn’t we want to work with Simon Pegg? He is such a hoot!” says Forte, describing him as only half of the reason to give a solo film to Buck Wild. She explains that they wanted to dive into some of the characters that they couldn’t give enough time to in a film with eighteen lead characters. They wanted to narrow it in and peel back the layers, getting to know characters more — and Buck Wild is the one to start with.
“Buck is such an incredible character. He’s eccentric, he’s funny, he’s a swashbuckler, he’s a hero. He talks to rocks, he talks to tree stumps. He has friends who are carnivorous plants. He’s just a colorful character, but he’s also loyal and a protector. Buck is a protector of the Lost World and that provides so much exploration for adventure and peril and hijinks.” – Lori Forte
Yes, Forte said Wild is the first one, so fans everywhere will have their fingers crossed for more Ice Age films focused on solo characters, and having Disney+ as a platform to do this feels promising.

The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild might be named after Buck Wild, but Eddie and Crash take a front seat in this film too. Director John C. Donkin talks about how they have always been sidekick characters. They are protective of Ellie but the audience hasn’t really gotten to know who they are — until now.
“It was an opportunity to have a journey with them and see them grow up a little bit. They have been in the franchise since the second installment and it felt like time for them to say they want to be independent possums. They have this dream of having a bachelor pad and they get into some trouble. They’re very fun character. They always have each other’s back, but always at each other’s expense.” – John C. Donkin
When a franchise goes on this long it is nice to see them spread out and bring more characters to the forefront. Fans of Buck Wild, Crash, and Eddie will be happy to see that this one is all about them!
