Immortals Fenyx Rising is a game that is a whole ton of fun, especially for those that love puzzles, action, and Greek mythology.
I was attracted to Immortals Fenyx Rising the moment I heard about it because of the Greek mythology aspect. If you didn’t know already, I am of Greek heritage and the mythology has always been interesting to me.
In this game you play as Fenyx, a new God or Goddess, as you explore an open world inspired by Greek mythology. From the first few moments of this game I was hooked. I knew this was a game I was going to have a lot of fun playing. I haven’t beat it yet, but I am about 20 hours in so I imagine the end is coming soon.
What I Love About it
I love that this game is so funny. It is whimsical and is sure to make you laugh out loud at certain moments. Listening to Promethus continuously make fun of Zeus is sure to have you rolling! Their dialogue makes this whole game worth playing. Trust me. The fact that the story is told through the Gods having a discussion, is absolutely perfect and unique.
The fighting style is actually a lot of fun in Immortals Fenyx Rising. If you have ever seen me game live on my YouTube Channel then you know I am really bad at blocking and dodging. I either go crazy and continuously dodge so that I can barely get a hit in, or I just stand there and get walloped. Why? I don’t know. I have no good reason for it. But in Immortals Fenyx Rising I can handle the battles and the running away with ease! Huzzah!
I have said it before and I will say it again, I am a huge fan of games that give me way too much to do. I am a completionist at heart and that means I will spend hours and hours trying to solve every puzzle, find every chest, and get 100% in the game. Immortals Fenyx Rising gives player a lot of things to do, so that made me very happy.
What I Don’t Love About It
When you are climbing towards the beginning of the game, before your stamina and/or supply of blue mushrooms has been built up, it can be hard to get a lot accomplished. What do I mean by this? Like I said above I enjoy collecting everything in a game, in order to complete it to 100%.
Without the stamina I was falling down cliffs I was trying to climb, or drowning while trying to swim great lengths. I get that this was to keep you away from certain areas before you were ready, but it still annoyed me when I first started playing.
The biggest issue I had with this game is that some of the puzzles get a bit repetitive. This is necessarily a bad thing, but when I have to find and carry 7 rocks back to a tic tac toe like board, it gets to be too much. All that being said, I do love the puzzles.
Overall Thoughts
Immortals Fenyx Rising is a whole lot of fun. It is a great way to fill time and just mess around. The story itself isn’t anything to write home about, but it isn’t bad either. I can honestly say that I have fun while playing it. Whether doing story line stuff, or messing around trying to get to 100%.
I am playing this game on the PS5, however I think the best console for it is probably the Nintendo Switch. It comes off to me as a game that is a lot of fun in handheld mode, but also nice to throw up on the big screen now and again.
If you are looking for a game that is a fun way to the pass the time, will make you laugh, and give you about 25-30 hours of gameplay, Immortals Fenyx Rising is for you! More than worth the sticker price if you ask me.
