Knives Out is a who done it movie with a fantastic cast that will have you guessing what really happened almost the entire way through.

    knives out review

I love a good who done it movie and that is exactly what Knives Out is. This movie is not afraid to poke fun at the genre it falls under. Normally I am pretty good at guessing the ending of movies like this, however Knives Out kept me on my toes. Revealing what happened in the first act of the film came as a shocker to me and I knew there had to be more to it. I spent the rest of the film trying to put all the pieces together, and found myself (pleasantly) surprised by the ending.

Knives Out is all about the death of Harlan Thrombey, a crime novelist. He has a large family, and each of them seems to have a motive to kill him. He was found dead by what looked like an apparent suicide but then Detective Benoit Blanc comes to investigate. Blanc suspects foul play and sits down each member of the family to investigate.

He enlists the help of Marta Cabrera and trust everything she says due to the fact that she cannot lie without vomiting. Yeah, you read that right. If she lies, she throws up. Which is one of the best parts of the movie, trust me.

    An Amazing Cast

When I saw the trailer for Knives Out the first thing I noticed was what an incredible cast it has. Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, Micheal Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Katherine Langford…and the list goes on. I mean WOW. I assumed that meant this movie would be fantastic, and I wasn’t wrong. They all played their roles perfectly — and kept me guessing!

It is hard to choose a standout actor from this movie, but honestly, Ana de Armas absolutely crushed it. I didn’t know about her before seeing this movie, but have since become a huge fan. I am looking forward to seeing her act again with Daniel Craig in No Time To Die.

    Will Keep You Guessing

Toward the beginning of the film we get a flashback to what happened on the night that Harlan died. Although I wasn’t buying the full story. It seemed silly that the movie would reveal the who done it that early on. You would think that is when most people would give up on the film but oh no. It just kept getting better and better.

As the movie progresses, I wasn’t sure what to think or who to believe anymore. My husband and I both had theories (that were both wrong fro the record) and we were eagerly awaiting to find out exactly what happened.

The way this movie ties itself up, in a neat little bow, is more than perfect. If you are looking for a who done it that will make you laugh, second guess everything, and become truly invested in the investigation, Knives Out is it!

Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc is mysteriously enlisted to investigate.

From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
