Mama’s Geeky spoke with Alison Brie about bringing the iconic villainess Evil-Lyn to the big screen in the 2026 film. In our interview, she opens up about the thrill of introducing He-Man’s weird and wonderful world to a new generation, the incredible weight of putting on Evil-Lyn’s updated costume, and what it was like walking up Skeletor’s throne of bones. Alison Brie on Her Evil-Lyn Costume & Set Secrets

Mama’s Geeky: I’m super excited to introduce my kids to this world. What does it feel like to know you are the opening for a new generation here?

Alison Brie: It’s so exciting. I mean, I have three young nephews. They were with me at the LA premiere and it was so fun to watch them watch the movie, just like eyes wide. This whole world of He-Man is incredibly inventive. The heroes like Mechaneck and Fisto and Ram Man, they’re so weirdly specific. The villains like Spikor, you know, Goatman. I feel like I can’t wait for this new generation to be introduced to all these guys. And of course, Evil-Lyn, such an iconic character. It’s incredibly exciting.

Mama’s Geeky: What was it like for you when you first put that costume on? You look amazing.

Alison Brie: Thank you. The layers were like, you know, the first time I put it on in my first fitting, our costume designer Richard Sale is incredible. And I just love the way that he updated the costume so thoughtfully, but held on to those iconic pieces. Evil-Lyn’s thigh-high boots, the helmet, you know, the spikes, the cape. But the attention to detail was so incredible. The costume was so beautiful. The first time I had it on was really the moment I kind of took in the weight of the whole thing.

And then the first time on set was that next punch because the sets were incredibly built. It’s so rare to have on a movie this size, the sets actually built—you can walk up the stairs of Skeletor’s throne of bones and the tongue of Snake Mountain. So just my first day on set was at Castle Grayskull at the altar of the Sword of Power. And that was what I really was like, “Oh, wow, we’re bringing this iconic thing to life.”

Mama’s Geeky: Oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine. I was gonna ask you about the sets because it is just incredible to watch the scale of this on the big screen.

Alison Brie: It’s insane. And I think it makes such a difference that they were real builds – that so much of it was built. And of course, the worlds are expanded from there using special effects, but it gives it a real tactile quality. And I actually think it makes it feel more reminiscent of the original 80s cartoons. The colors are bright and vibrant. And the sets just, they feel real because they were.

Masters of the Universe Review
Jared Leto stars as ‘Skeletor’ in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.

Mama’s Geeky: It’s insane. And you and Jared like the back and forth—the two of you are so great. So what was it like filming with him? Was he on set?

Alison Brie: Oh my gosh, he was on set the whole time. I felt incredibly lucky to get to work with him firsthand. He is such an amazing actor. And he made really strong choices. I think he’s a great Skeletor. And Travis Knight, our director, really let us improvise a lot. So we were having so much fun with that Skeletor/Evil-Lyn dynamic, which is very love-hate. It’s very volatile.

But we had so much fun. Obviously, a lot is on the cutting room floor because we would just riff and riff and riff. But I think because Travis let us do that, so much of the relationship is just infused with that fun tension.

Mama’s Geeky: Oh, my God. There’s like a close-up of an eye roll that you do at one point. And I was like, this is perfect. It was just perfect.

Alison Brie: It’s a game. It’s like, how many eye rolls could I get into the movie? You know, I think maybe only a couple made it in. But there’s internal eye rolling happening the whole time. That’s Evil-Lyn.
