Saying Goodbye to These Characters

Bringing such beloved characters to life makes saying goodbye especially difficult.

Mama’s Geeky: What is it like to say goodbye to these characters?

Johnny Yong Bosch: “So sad. I hate saying goodbye. But it’s been a great ride and I am so happy to just be part of it.”

Sarah Roach: “Yeah, same. I mean, I’m terrible at goodbyes. I love an Irish goodbye, but it’s sad, and I’m going to miss her, but, if I really miss her, I can go back and watch whenever I want.”

David Matranga: “Sad. Yeah. I don’t like it. It’s, I don’t know. It’s, I guess, bittersweet is the only word to describe it. Because I like stories that have a beginning, a middle, and an end. But when I love getting to be a part of something so much, I really don’t want it to end.”

Alexis Tipton: “Millie’s only been in Trigun Stargaze. I want more time with my girl. That’s fair, right? But the time I have had has been wonderful.”

Exploring the Final Arc

The final episodes bring major growth and new dynamics for the characters, something the cast was excited to dive into.

Mama’s Geeky: What were you most excited to explore in this final arc?

Sarah Roach: “For Meryl, specifically, I was really excited to kind of step into the mentor role this season. You know, she was brand new last season and kind of learned the ropes, and now she’s stepping into Roberto’s shoes and, you know, giving the newbie a little bit of a hard time, but still doing the same thing and teaching her as well, and I was really excited to get to explore that aspect of her.”

David Matranga: “Wolfwood’s growth and trajectory over Trigon Stargaze has been so, I mean, from the scene, the episode with Midvalley the Hornfreak, and that conversation about change, like, can you change? It’s episode eight, the fight with Livio and what that brings about, and dropping Vash off at the orphanage. There’s so much action that he takes that gives you insight into his change or his growth.

Alexis Tipton: “I think just sort of everybody finding each other, because they’ve all been searching for Vash, you know, in the interim between Trigun Stampede and Trigun Stargaze. And so just when they all are finally like, okay, we’re all here, and Millie’s new to that group, but I don’t know. There’s just this, okay, we’re all here. We’re this found family. We’re going to do the thing. We’ve got each other. Let’s do it.”

The Power of the Fans

The connection between Trigun Stargaze and its fans is something the cast truly cherishes.

Mama’s Geeky: What does it mean to you that fans connect so deeply?

Johnny Yong Bosch: “Even though you haven’t met them before, and that’s the first time, you feel connected. You’re part of something that’s so much bigger than you are, and it’s like they’re just family.”

Mama’s Geeky: What’s it like seeing cosplay?

Alexis Tipton: “Just seeing that the effort, because the costume already takes so much time and effort. And then when they want to put as much or more time and effort into the props, it’s just, it’s incredible. People are so talented.”

Mama’s Geeky: What stands out about meeting fans?

David Matranga: “That’s the thing, you do your work, and we love doing the work. I love it. Or I wouldn’t still, you know, be around. But then you don’t ever really fully realize the impact that it has or can have.”

What They’ll Miss Most

Each actor shared what they love most about their character — and what they’ll miss.

Johnny Yong Bosch: “I mean, I love the journey that Vash is going through. I love his passion and what he stands for, his hopes. I love all the characters. I love the, I mean, I love so much about it. I’m so connected to it. That’s why I’m so bummed that it’s coming to an end already, you know?”

Sarah Roach: “I’ve really loved Meryl’s, I mean, she’s so dynamic. She has all these different places that she goes emotionally. I think one of my favorite things about her is she has, everyone in the show has these detailed facial expressions, but especially when it’s not even a worded line, it’s just reaction sounds.”

David Matranga: “When I voice Wolf, I’m a physical, I am very physical in my acting on stage or on camera or whatever. And Wolfwood, when I’m voicing him, like my posture changes a little bit. My shoulders do different things. Like he has a tempo about his movement that I just adore.”

Alexis Tipton: “I love Millie’s energy and her hope and her optimism and her just yes-and-ing life, like constantly. She’s just such a bright ball of sunshine. I always feel so good in my heart after I have recorded for Millie.”

As Trigun Stargaze prepares to wrap up, it’s clear the series has left a lasting impact on both its cast and its fans, and saying goodbye won’t be easy for anyone.

Be sure to catch the finale on Saturday, March 28 on Crunchyroll, and watch the full Mama’s Geeky interview for even more insights, stories, and behind-the-scenes moments with the cast.
