SXSW 2026 Love Language red carpet interviews: Lukas Gage talks romantic comedies, Companion 2, and more. [VIDEO]
Joey Power’s Love Language played at SXSW 2026 and Mama’s Geeky was there to cover the red carpet. The film follows Lou (Chloë Grace Moretz), a struggling author who finds an unexpected side hustle writing wedding vows for others. Things take a complicated turn when she realizes her latest client, Olivia (Isabel May), is actually marrying Lou’s long-time college crush, Warren (Manny Jacinto).
We had the chance to catch up with the talented ensemble that brings Love Language to life. The carpet was buzzing with the film’s supporting stars, including Isabel May, Joey Power, and Daniel David Stewart. We also spoke with Lukas Gage, who plays Gus, one of Lou’s best friends, pushing her to move past her recent heartbreak.
Lukas Gage on Rom-Com Traditions &Companion 2

Lukas Gage shared his excitement about the film’s unique tone, noting how it balances nostalgia with something entirely new.
“There’s something about it that is honoring the traditional rom-com, but there’s something a little bit funky and a little bit weird about it,” Gage told us.
He appreciated that the film avoids the “cliché version” of characters we’ve seen before, specifically praising how director Joey Power and the cast embraced the “anti-smoothness” of the script.

There was no way I was going to speak with Lukas Gage and not ask about the possibility of a sequel to one of my favorite films of last year, Companion.
When asked if he’d return for a Companion 2, Gage didn’t hesitate: “I would 100% do it. I would love me and Iris to be taking over and just bringing humanity back to having the robots bring humanity back to humans”.
He expressed his deep gratitude for the first film’s success, calling it “one of the best sci-fi movies of recent years”.
