SXSW 2026 Over Your Dead Body red carpet interviews: Jorma Taccone talks cult classics, Samara Weaving, and nerdy cinema fans. [VIDEO]
As a massive fan of horror comedies, I was thrilled to attend the SXSW 2026 premiere of Over Your Dead Body, a film that masterfully threads the needle between humor and action. It follows a young couple (Samara Weaving and Jason Segel) whose weekend getaway to a remote cabin turns into a fight for survival when they realize they both have plans to kill each other.
Mama’s Geeky caught up with the incredible creative team and cast that brought this twisted vision to life at SXSW 2026. I spoke with director Jorma Taccone about his love for the SXSW audience and the challenge of balancing genres, as well as screenwriters Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney on how they updated the script. I also chatted with cast members Keith Jardine and Paul Guilfoyle about their roles in the mayhem, and caught up with producer Guy Danella about the road to bringing this project to the big screen.

SXSW is the Perfect Place for a Premiere
A major highlight was my conversation with Jorma Taccone, who shared his excitement about being back at the festival and his deep connection to the material.
For Jorma Taccone, there was no better place than Austin to debut this film.
“This film festival I think is like true fans of cinema,” he told me. “And it’s always been such a warm like appreciative audience and like it really feels like people who like Love cinema and like and it feels nerdy in the way that I’m nerdy. And like and I fucking love it”.
Staying True to the Original
As both a director and a writer, Taccone was drawn to how the script honored its roots while adding a unique perspective. “I was excited that this movie stayed true to the original but like I think for me enhanced certain parts of it that, it feels more like me,” he explained.
He also praised the new leads, noting, “it’s been really awesome to sort of see Jason and Samara inhabit these roles that I think were so excellently played in the original… it really gives this different vibe for who they are for who our bad guys are”.
