House of the Dragon season 2 episode 4 kills off some major characters, which is sure to have a massive ripple effect through the next episodes.

House of the Dragon Season 2 has been off to an incredible start. Episode 4, the latest to be released, is easily one of the best of the entire series. We finally get to see an all out battle in the war for the throne, but it doesn’t come without cost. A couple of major characters are killed, and several are injured. These are sure to cause a ripple through the kingdom.
Warning: Spoilers For House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 Ahead!

Involving dragons in a war is all but certain to bring bloodshed, and that is exactly what the downfall of two major characters is. In House of the Dragon season 2, the time for war has finally come.
Cole decides to march on Harrenhal, even though both sides feel that it is an insignificant castle. He does so in the daytime, in an effort to surprise his opposition, however this just makes it easier for his army to be massacred.
King Aegon II Targaryen & Sunfyre

Princess Rhaenys Targaren arrives on her dragon, Meleys, as does King Aegon II Targaryen and his dragon, Sunfyre. Meleys puts up an amazing fight, nearly gutting Sunfyre. Aegon is thrilled to see his brother Aemond arrive on his dragon, Vhagar, but that joy is short lived, as Aemond betrays his brother and sets him ablaze.
At the end of the episode, it is assumed that Aegon is, at the very least, badly burned. We cannto tell if he has died, but if he has, will Cole and the others who witnessed it admit that it was at the hand of his brother? There is no way to know for certain, but we can imagine that they are more than a little scared of him, and what he is willing to do, so they will likely keep their mouths shut.
It is also uncertain if Sunfyre has died, but the dragon is clearly badly injured.
Princess Rhaenys Targaryen & Meleys

Rhaenys absolutely could have gotten away, however she circled back on Meleys, which was her downfall. Vhagar and Aemond attack, and both Rhaenys and Meleys fall from the sky, landing on the castle and dying.
What should have been a short battle for an inconsequential castle ends up being a very deadly one, that will have major ripple effects felt throughout the kingdom. In the books, this is titled the Battle at Rook’s Rest.
Aemond is likely to take over the throne if Aegon is indeed dead, which was clearly his intentions when he attacked his brother. While Rhaenyra Targaryen is surely going to want to avenge Rhaenys and continue her fight to take back the throne.
Fans will be waiting with baited breath to see what happens in House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5 next week.
