Netflix’s The Imaginary trailer is here and it dives into the power of imagination, as well as the one thing that stop it — reality. Streams July 5th.
The official trailer for Netflix’s new anime, The Imaginary, is here. It dives into the power of imagination, showing a young girl named Amanda and her imaginary friend Rudger. When a sinister man and a creepy young girl arrive, things seem to go south for the friends.
The trailer does not give much away, but also details that Rudger finds himself in the Town of Imaginaries, where imaginary friends go. He seems very upset, stating that Amanda will never forget him, when told that friends disappear when they are forgotten.
Rudger seems to meet many other imaginary friends, who vary in their design. From looking just like humans, to being hippos or tiny skeletons. The trailer explores the power of imagination, as well as what appears to be its biggest rival — reality.
The Imaginary is directed by renowned animator Yoshiyuki Momose, who worked on Spirited Away. The animation is stunning, which should come as no surprise knowing that this film is from Studio Ponoc, which was founded by former Studio Ghibli staff members.
While Studio Ponoc is a separate and independent studio, it has strong connections to Studio Ghibli due to the involvement of key Ghibli personnel.
The Imaginary starts streaming on Netflix July 5th and if the trailer is any indication, you don’t want to miss it.
