The first two A Quiet Place films are fantastic. They offer real, raw, and emotional human stories in a terrifying world where Earth has been invaded by aliens who hear every sound you make and are eager to attack. The third installment, A Quiet Place: Day One, is a great exploration of the human connection, and how even strangers can bond in a time of tragedy. A blend of frightening and heartwarming, this movie solidifies A Quiet Place as a perfect trilogy.

A Quiet Place: Day One transports fans back to the beginning, back to the day of the invasion. Because of this, the start of the film is loud and buzzing, then it gets even louder, as the terror sets in. But then it all goes quiet, which is when the emotion and human story really seeps through to the audience.

A Quiet Place: Day One review

Having seen so much of the creature in detail because of the previous two films, there was a chance that they would not be as scary this time around. Nothing could be further from the truth. Seeing them run in hordes, almost spider-like, is edge-of-your-seat terrifying.

Even though we know they can be killed at this point, it doesn’t make them feel any less threatening. And because we have time with Lupita Nyong’o’s Samira before the invasion, we have already connected with her on a deeper level, making the audience actively root for her to make it, at least a little longer.

When Joseph Quinn’s Eric enters the story, that is where the heart really starts to come through in a time of darkness. When we first meet him, he is scared and alone, not knowing what to do, but he follows a cat named Frodo to Samira, and both of their worlds are changed for the better during these unknown times.

It is this human connection that makes A Quiet Place: Day One shine. The movie is both terrifying and emotional. Viewers will be cowering in their seats one moment, and crying the next. It is truly powerful and is sure to send audiences home with more love for their fellow humans — at least hopefully.

Something that the A Quiet Place films does so well is the sound design. With a concept like this it is absolutely necessary. Day One continues to provide top-notch sound and score combinations, delivering a dynamic experience for theater-goers. Yes, this movie begs to be seen on the big screen, in a theater. You simply will not get the full experience at home.

Overall Thoughts

A Quiet Place: Day One is powerful, emotional, yet also terrifying. There is a scene in a bar, that is sure to hit many viewers right in the heart. There are jump scares, and close up looks at the creatures we have come to fear over the years, but the real story is the human story.

There aren’t a lot of truly perfect trilogies out there, but we can say with confidence that this is one of them.

See this movie in theaters, you will not regret it.
