Liam O’Brien details how the Mighty Nein animated series will differ from The Legend of Vox Machina animated series in a recent interview.

In an interview with Screen Rant’s Caitlin Tyrrell to promote Critical Role’s Candela Obscura, Liam O’Brien also discusses the upcoming Mighty Nein animated series, which follows on the heels of the success of The Legend of Vox Machina.
These are two different Tabletop Role Playing Game campaigns that are featured on the Critical Role YouTube Channel, so it would make sense that the two series will have differences, despite the obvious similarities.
How Will Mighty Nein Will Differ From The Legend of Vox Machina
When asked how the Mighty Nein series will stand out from The Legend of Vox Machina, O’Brien chooses his words carefully before delivering an exciting answer that will certainly have fans even more excited.
“What I can say is that I think there are things that people love, there’s overlap between Vox Machina and Mighty Nein, that carries through from one to the other. They’re certainly both found families, so there are similarities, but there’s reasons that the two groups are different. they have very different identities. Vox Machina are a bunch of fuckups become epic legends. and we know that Mighty Nein is more of a collection of broken losers weaved into a spycraft novel in a lot of ways. you can expect those differences between the two shows.”
Critical Role fans were thrilled when the campaign came to our screens via the animated series. Both seasons one and two of The Legend of Vox Machina boast a 100% critic Rotten Tomatoes score, with audience scores in the nineties.
The Legend of Vox Machina synopsis: Vox Machina, a band of eight unlikely heroes, find themselves on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces.
Liam O’Brien also comments on The Legend of Vox Machina season 3, which fans have been waiting for. “We see the different levels of production all the way through – from the early stages to the finished stages. It’s gonna be good and everyone’s gonna be happy when it arrives.”
Will Candela Obscura Be Animated?
Tyrrell also asks Liam if Candela Obscura could possibly ever make its way to the animated space, to which he replies that everyone in Critical Role is “animation hounds”.
He explains in a very heartfelt way how he grew up on animation and one of the reasons that he loves everything Critical Role does is because he feels like he has come full circle. “The stories and adventures that we spin together are inspiring young and old in a way that I felt was done for me. It meant so much to me as a young person so to get to be able to do that now is so rewarding.”
He claims he has fallen in love with Newfaire and the estethic and the character and the history that they have created for Candela Obscura, so he thinks it is a good fit to come to animation. “I would love to see it.”
While we do not yet have a release date for Mighty Nein, the animated series was teased by Prime Video about a year ago on YouTube. The description is as follows, Mighty Nein follows a group of criminals and misfits who are the only ones that can prevent the kingdom from plunging into chaos when an arcane artifact capable of reshaping reality falls into the wrong hands.
