David Ayer claims that his cut of the Suicide Squad is one of the best comic book movies ever made, during a question and answer session after his new film, The Beekeeper.
David Ayer attended a live question and answer session after a screening of his new film, The Beekeeper, which stars Jason Statham. His brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after it’s revealed he’s a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.
Of course, it is hard to talk to David Ayer without asking about his 2016 film Suicide Squad. It is well known that the version that DC released was not what David wanted released, causing fans to call for the Ayer Cut, much like they championed for the Snyder Cut.
Will we see that version? Well, one can only hope. Especially since when asked about it, David Ayer claims that he made one of the best comic book movies, that no one has been able to see yet.
David Ayer Says His Suicide Squad Is One Of The Best Comic Book Movies
“I would have shut up about it a long time ago if, like, my cut was like, oh, it’s a tweaky thing, this scene is thirty seconds different or I used different takes or there’s a scene I cut. People don’t understand how plastic film is. How you can come to two totally opposite results with the same medium that’s photographed.”
“I’m coming off Fury, right, like. I basically made a war movie in the DC space. So I made a David Ayer and DC is like eh, we want a DC movie, and the results are what we got. The DNA and the character, and the sense of place and the visuals were so strong in it that people connected to it. It was ridiculously freaking successful but there’s a vastly vastly better version.”
“I mean, I’m just gonna say it. I made one of the best comic movies ever made. Straight up. It is what it is.”
“That’s the Director’s Cut. You guys deserve to see it. But it ain’t my property. It ain’t my IP.”
