The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 is an emotional roller coaster, with ups and downs for everyone’s favorite group of ragtag mercenaries.

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 review

The Legend Of Vox Machina takes the story that was created through a Dungeons and Dragons game and brings it to life with some fantastic animation. If you enjoyed the first season, you are really going to love this one! It dives deeper in to the backstory of the majority of the main characters, while sending them on a life-threatening journey to save the world. Packed with action, heart, and a whole lot of ups and downs, The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 is sure to evoke every emotion in fans.

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 takes the characters that fans already know and love from last season, and perhaps from the Critical Role videos, and throws them into more life threatening situations. After defeating the Briarwoods in season 1, they now must take on a whole slew of dragons who call themselves the Chroma Conclave. Defeating one dragon was hard enough, now they need to find a way to kill four of them — each one has a deadly power such as acid, poison fog, or ice. This is not going to be an easy feat but if any group has the guts (and maybe stupidity) to try, it is Vox Machina!

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 Review

The season starts off exactly where it left off, with four dragons ready to swoop in and kill, well, just about everyone. Of course Vox Machina is able to get away, or it wouldn’t be much of a season, and they spend the next 12 episodes trying to figure out just how they can take these creatures down, eventually learning they will need to collect some vestiges to help them out.

The overall story of the season is very well written. Of course it really did all come down to the roll of the dice when it was formed through gameplay, but it plays on the screen wonderfully. The team cracks jokes, some of them raunchy (mostly from Scanlon of course), which offers a bit of a reprieve to the heaviness of what is at stake. Dragons are, quite literally, taking over the world — and they have a plan that is even more sinister than one might expect.

Throughout the journey viewers get to learn more about their favorite characters, as they learn more about themselves. Nearly every episode has action in one form or another, keeping the pacing moving along at high speed. The episodes for The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 will be released three at a time, over a four week period. They are split up in a way that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats as they wait a week to see what will happen next, and you know that is on purpose.

The final episode of each grouping is intense and emotional, and will likely have fans in tears. As the season wraps up, episode 12 offers a bit of hope, before ripping it all away. Leaving everyone on a massive cliffhanger as we wait for the inevitable season 3.

New Characters That Don’t Steal The Spotlight

Something that The Legend Of Vox Machina does brilliantly is give viewers new characters while not allowing them to take the spotlight away from the main ones. Vex, Vax, Percy, Pike, Grog, Scanlon, and Keyleth all have a past. The show does a wonderful job of giving us glimpses of that without taking them away from the main story for too long. It also gives each and every character the time they need to develop as the season goes on.

Everyone is dealing with their own issues in this season, and while we don’t get too much from Percy or Pike, we get a whole lot from everyone else. Talk about an emotional roller coaster of a season. There are ups and downs and there will be a lot of tears for those who love these characters. Grog’s story in particular has ties to the previous season, and is absolutely heartbreaking at times.

We get to learn more about Vex and Vax’s relationship with their father, and how it has affected them both in different ways. In an effort to remain spoiler free we won’t dive too much into what goes on with them this season, but there is surely a decision that is going to come back and bite Vax in the butt, and we are not looking forward to it.

    Not Enough Percy (or Pike)

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 1 gave us a whole lot of time with Percy. The story revolving the Briarwoods allowed us to dive deeply into his past, so it makes sense that he takes a bit of a step backwards in season 2. We are big Percy fans though, largely because of all the attention he was given last season, so it is a tad heartbreaking to feel like we don’t get enough time with him this season.

That being said, the character development that we get for the rest of the gang allows us to form that same kind of love and feeling for them that we did for Percy last season. The same goes for Pike, although there are some fantastic moments between her and Grog in season 2. We learned a lot about her in the prior season so it makes sense that the others get a bit more time to shine.

Still, The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 delivers some great Percy and Vax moments, so we really can’t complain — too much.

    Overall Thoughts

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 allows fans to get to know the main characters on a deeper level, as they discover truths about themselves as well. The best decision is not always the one made, and Vox Machina is sure to pay the consequences for that later on down the road.

The season breezes by, with wonderfully paced episodes. Only one or two this season dip below perfection, but really that is nothing to complain about because they are still fantastic. Humor, heart, and quite a bit of action, season 2 delivers on multiple fronts. We cannot wait to see what happens in season 3.
