New York Comic Con 2022 was packed with impressive cosplay, here’s our top 5 favorite outfits we spotted through the convention weekend.
Best Cosplay at New York Comic Con 2022
This past weekend we attended New York Comic Con (aka the second biggest convention of the year) which also means there is tons of cosplay. More than even San Diego Comic Con, NYCC is know for the amazing costumes created and worn by super fans all over the world. Out of the thousands of great cosplay costumes – here are our top 5 favorites.
#5 – Spawn
Being a detailed costume can get you far but these cosplayers went above and beyond with the pairing of 2 characters. The pairing along with the awesome props such as the chains, tops hats, and super detailed gun, makes for an amazing costume.
The jacket is also made super well, as well as the small spike detailing on Spawn himself, and on his partner the chains and spiky boots. Overall a super unique costume that puts a very cool twist on a classic character.
#4 – Doctor Strange
This one really caught us off guard. A guy in a doctor strange costume sitting by the show floor was a bit weird at first, but then you start to understand how complex and cool this costume really is. Firstly the hands are a great touch, really adding to the character of Doctor Strange – but also the costume isn’t bad. It is a basic Strange costume but of course it is unique in the sense that he is floating?
From what we can tell the cosplayer is sitting on a still and “floating” but it is done so seamlessly that it looks great. There were many many Doctor Strange in attendance but out floating Strange was definitely the best of the bunch.
#3 – Venom and Carnage
These cosplayers were in attendance last year but you know what they said, “don’t fix what ain’t broke”. They came back this year and it worked just as well. Another costume that was super well thought out with a fake arm going into their jacket, and their real one sticking through the venom and carnage heads, letting them move around like real specimens.
The symbiotic feel was also great, the detail on how it meshes with the Spiderman suit is cool but also the black and white detailing on the venom and carnage skin makes it that more realistic.
#2 – Samus
This is one of the best cosplays at New York Comic Con 2022 but also one of the best we have ever seen. The suit overall is super well made from the different layers to colors to textures, it is super unique and unlike anything else. The depth creates from the different materials is super cool but of course the 2 standouts are the weapon and helmet.
The weapon is attached to the costume in such a cool way but the helmet is straight up amazing. The rusting effect creates a great feel for the character but the green glowing inside the helmet is perfect. This cosplay looks like it was taken directly from the video game and brought to real life. PERFECTION.
#1 – Buzz Lightyear
This will easily be the hottest take on this entire list but we didn’t see a single other Buzz Lightyear costume or a costume that even came close to this one in terms of details. Firstly, no helmet was a bold choice, but the right one. If you zoom in you can even see the goatee swirl that Buzz has.
The pieces of this cosplay also come together like it is a toy. Everything is attached, but there are minor gaps and overlays like a real toy from the movie. The surface details make it stand out from the rest.
Like we mentioned, Samus’ helmet had some great rusting details, but this entire costume has tiny details that are so perfect. The off white coloration of the entire suit, the skid marks on only the crevices and bending parts, the darker green on other parts, it is just brought together so so well.
At the end of the day all of the cosplay at NYCC 2022 were amazing, some more detailed than others, but all super creative, unique, and amazing in their own ways.
