The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 5 Review

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 5 kicks off with the Harfoot journey, something that we haven’t seen too much of as of late. Because of The Stranger traveling with them, this story is one of the most interesting so it is nice to see what has been happening. It is here we learn a bit more about this wizard — and even get to see him in action, something that the series has been lacking.

As for the humans, viewers spend time in this episode seeing them band together with Galadriel to take on a common enemy. This was set up at the end of the previous episode, but seeing the training actually taking place is exciting. Galadriel is a skilled warrior and there is a scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 5 that confirms it. She takes on quite a few soldiers while simultaneously showing them how to best an Orc. While this scene is full of great choreography, the dialogue is quirky and fun, delivering a few laughs.

It is here that we see quite a bit more of Isildur, and the set up for what we all know is coming truly begins. It is almost immediately that viewers will become enthralled with this episode. After a slow start, things just keep getting better and better. Last episode was great, and this one is even better.

Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad), Robert Aramayo (Elrond)

The elves have a lot going on this episode as Elrond meets with High King Gil-galad and Durin IV for a dinner. Tensions are high and it becomes quite clear what the King’s intentions always were. It is during a conversation between Elrond and Gil-galad where the future of The Lord of the Rings lore is heavily mentioned.

Of course the visuals continue to be stunning, with the makeup and costuming work make it easy for viewers to believe we are indeed imerced in the world of The Lord of the Rings. In an effort to remain spoiler free, we won’t go into much more detail than this.

Things get crazy and intense toward the end of the episode. There are some truly shocking moments. They are finally starting to settle in and move from the world building to the development stage. Those who felt the start of this series to be dull, will mostly change their tune as things get underway during The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 5.

About The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power episode 5 is now streaming on Prime Video.
