Moon Knight is finally coming to the MCU and for those who don’t know too much about this Marvel character, here are 5 reasons you should be REALLY excited to see him in live action.
Moon Knight is finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For those who don’t know who this Marvel character is, we promise you are in for a treat. He will be played by the fantastic actor, Oscar Isaac, and that isn’t even one of the five reasons you should be thrilled to see him come to live action — that is just the icing on the cake.
5 Reasons You Should Be Excited For Moon Knight
His Comic Book Origin
Disney+ has been known for tweaking origin stories of both heroes and villains in order to make them align more with the already long established MCU, but the comic book origin for Moon Knight is something that should have everyone excited about this character. In the comics Marc Spector grew up in Chicago, became a boxer, joined the U.S. Marines, and finally ended up in the C.I.A. All of these gave him the skills to become a great fighter, and eventually a mercenary. But how did he become Moon Knight himself?
Marc was left for dead in the Egyptian desert until a god by the name of Khonshu saved him. Khonsu is the ancient Egyptian god of the moon whose name means “travelers”. This has to do with the travel of the moon across the night sky. But, Khonshu saving him made his Dissociative Identity Disorder more enhanced, in turn giving him wealth and superpowers that he uses to fight crime.

He Uses His Disorder To Help Fight Crime
The most widely known fact about Moon Knight is the hero’s multiple personalities due to his Dissociative Identity Disorder. His personas consist of Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley but, many don’t know how useful this is. Starting with Marc Spector, his original identity — in the MCU show it looks like he will be working at a history museum where he can learn about his connection to Konshu, the god of the moon.
Steven Grant, a wealthy playboy persona, using his personal wealth to fund his crime fighting. Then there is Jake Lockley who is the most grounded persona — a cab driver that can establish leads and relationships in the detective area. Finally is the newest persona, and maybe the most important, Mr. Knight. He is the “official representative” for Moon Knight, talking with the police about crime scenes and people in need of protection.
He Wears White So His Enemies Can See Him Coming
Moon Knight has a classic white costume and in the MCU’s new show he will be dawning a mix of light gray and white. Just wait until you hear why. In the comics fans learn that the reason he wears white is so that his enemies know he is coming. This of course makes him a super easy target but his rationale is simple — he wants the enemies to see him and in turn fear him. If just reading this doesn’t send chills up your spine, we are certain the show will.
His Villains Are PERFECT
Many think the MCU has a bit of a villain problem, but chances are Moon Knight won’t be falling under that trope because of his personal rogue’s gallery. From Bushman to Black Spectre, Moon Knight has some great villains that have rich and very personal backstories. Fingers crossed for more seasons because those are villains that we could see down the line — from what we know Academy Award winning actor, Ethan Hawke, is playing Arthur Harrow.
In the comics Harrow is a Nobel Prize winning doctor but he has a very dark past. Comic book details aside, the most important aspect that links him to the show is that Hawke described his character as inspired by David Koresh, an infamous cult leader who died among his followers. In the trailer we saw Marc Spector surrounded by Harrow’s followers bowing around him when Harrow says “it must be very difficult for you”. He then tells Marc to embrace the chaos in him.
This could lead to Harrow trying to take advantage of Marc’s disability, but of course that wouldn’t go to plan or we wouldn’t have much of a show. Though we don’t know the exact details on how much comic inspiration the character is going to have, Harrow could easily be one of the darkest and most feared villains in the entire MCU.

Moon Knight Is Practically Invincible
As crazy as it sounds, Marvel comic books just revealed that Moon Knight is seemingly invincible. This could be huge for the character in the MCU. Moon Knight’s powers are connected to Khonshu and Khonshu is connected to the moon. This makes his power sets different during different phases of the moon. He is seemingly invincible in the comics because Marc Spector “died” when in Egypt, which was when him and Khonshu interacted for the first time.
More recently he was “died” three more times but Khonshu continues to keep him alive. His power set can be different depending on which identity is in charge AND what the phase of the moon is. This means Moon Knight could easily become one of the most powerful ground level heroes to join the MCU to this day.
