Superman & Lois has returned from a one-week break to give the audience more twists, drama, and big moments. Superman & Lois 2×8 continues to deliver and show what a series should
be doing each episode. SPOILERS, you have been warned! We have a lot to discuss.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois 2×8
    “Into Oblivion”

It was too good to be true; Lucy wasn’t missing as everyone believed. She is the fail-safe if Ally doesn’t “ascend,” aka go through the portal in the mines to the other world. Superman stopped Ally and others before they went through, but not before Anderson took the pendant back as he went through himself. I knew I couldn’t trust this sob story from Lucy about backing out at the last minute. Before the reveal, the episode was playing it off as things are great when things aren’t. I knew a twist was to occur, but I still loved it. This show loves its twists, but we never complain because we also do.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

John Henry Irons wakes up from being in a coma for multiple episodes. He refers to our Lois as his for a brief moment, which causes awkwardness amongst everyone. Later we have Clark with John, and John’s daughter Natalie discusses everything that transpired. Natalie still can’t trust Clark since his doppelganger killed her mom on her earth. They have a moment to discuss potentially connecting, so it’s not as uncomfortable between them.

Finally, we see Natalie and her father John getting their place, which will be good for them. We also got to see how Natalie got to Earth-Prime, and possibly connect to Crisis On Infinite Earths with Natalie being lost for a while. It’s good to see more connections with the other CW shows.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

Sam Lane, Lucy & Lois’ father, questions Ally at the D.O.D about who went through the portal. In typical fashion, Ally plays mind games on how Sam wasn’t there for Lucy or Anderson. This exchange got heated, and I was furious. Not because of the quality of the scene, but the show wanted me to be angry during that moment. Ally is a terrible person, and no matter what, she gets away with a lot of crap.

The slow reveal over time of her being the true villain is surprising. I expected her to be an issue for Lois, but it’s turned into much more. Sam breaking down later believing Lucy was dead was emotional and made it even worse when Lucy does betray him in the episode’s final moment.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

Jonathan is forced to get a job since he won’t reveal where the X-Kryptonite came from that got him in major trouble. His father asks him where it came from, and Jonathan won’t budge again. He is determined to protect his girlfriend from any risk, and I understand his stance. He cares deeply for her, but now he sees how much trouble this decision could cost him. His brother Jordan sees a man demanding the money from Jonathan’s girlfriend for the inhalers, and X-Kryptonite Jonathan got caught with.

That man confronts Jonathan and his girlfriend over this at night, causing Jordan to save his brother from being hurt. Jordan hides his identity during this encounter, which echoes Clark’s early days before becoming Superman on the series. Some fans noticed how fast Jonathan recovered from being attacked by the drug dealer. A theory is that he has super healing and that his powers are starting to manifest, but he doesn’t notice it yet.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

Jordan choosing to save his brother may affect his relationship with Sarah since Sarah has reconnected with Aubrey since they can relate to their parents breaking apart. Sarah wants
Jordan to hang out with her and Aubrey to break up the awkwardness presented. However, Jordan makes a strong point that it won’t just fix the issue since Aubrey is the girl Sarah kissed at camp.

Sarah may think Jordan doesn’t want to resolve the problem, and maybe this is the beginning of their relationship ending. It could just be a bump in the road, but Clark earlier in this season told Jordan that Sarah might not be the one. Jordan mentally can’t handle if Sarah left from what I’ve seen from him, so hopefully, it doesn’t come to that. Jordan is an emotional person, and he may lose control of his powers if he doesn’t train with them before something terrible happens.

Superman & Lois 2x8 Into Oblivion Review

Lana, along with Kyle, got some scenes together, which brings tension, and emotional moments. Kyle is asked to help Lana with the debate she will have with the Mayor soon. Kyle makes the point that the Mayor will bring up her broken home with Kyle’s mistake. He is correct, as the Mayor was doing this earlier when the town found out what Kyle did to Lana.

However, she needs to realize that she can’t avoid the questions about her marriage and how that won’t affect her being a Mayor if she is elected. Lana, in my mind, has a solid chance to win the election and to lead Smallville on a better path. Unfortunately, the current Mayor seems to just get away with whatever at this point.

Lucy hasn’t turned to the light side, Jordan may have some issues with Sarah after his choice, and some people have “ascended” to the other world. What happens next? Good question, but I can’t wait for next week’s episode! More shows need to pay attention to the formula of how Superman & Lois handles their seasons. This season has killed it as I expected, and each episode delivers!

    About Superman & Lois

After years of facing supervillains, monsters and alien invaders, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books’ famed journalist Lois Lane come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever — dealing with being working parents in today’s society.

Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois worry about whether their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.

Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang and her Fire Chief husband, Kyle Cushing. The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah.

Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, Gen. Samuel Lane looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice.

Superman & Lois is available to stream on The CW now.
