Superman & Lois solidified itself as a series that will keep everyone on the edge of their seats with a Superman & Lois 2×6 ending that shocked fans. “Tried and True” delivered on many levels, and I can’t believe this show exists! SPOILERS! We have a lot to cover in this review.
Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois 2×6
“Tried and True” Ahead
The opening scene surprised me, but it added so much depth. We see Bizarro going after his world’s Ally and fighting soldiers in an excellent side shot. In typical action scenes, the camera moves around to show a variety of angles. The decision to keep it still, only showing a side profile of the sequence, was a nice change of pace.
Bizarro’s world also has Lana Lang as a super-powered being, and it was a nice nod to her being Superwoman in the comics. Bizarro then explains in more detail to Superman why Ally needs to be stopped and the Pendant he brought needs to be destroyed at all costs. Ally is the real threat of the season, and I love the development.
Sam Lane decides to surprise Lois with her sister showing up on the farm. Lois wasn’t expecting this, and you can cut the tension between the sisters with a knife. Since Lucy filmed Lois without her permission and played during that meeting with Chrissy, their first conversation on the porch was heated. Sam points out that this fighting needs to stop between them, and things eased up for a bit.
I was waiting for the turn, which happened when I expected it to be. During Jonathan’s football game, they broke out into an argument over Ally. Lucy doesn’t see the truth, and it crushes me. Lucy is more intelligent than this, but until significant events occur. Lucy will not change her viewpoint on Ally just yet. I see the sisters reuniting, but it won’t happen right away.
Speaking of Jonathan, he leads the team during their football game. He, of course, takes X-Kryptonite right before the game. With him doing this, the other team has no chance of winning. Jonathan has a clear advantage, but he wasn’t excited about the victory. Maybe this is due to a side effect of the drug, or perhaps he realizes this is the wrong path he is taking. Jordan confronts Jonathan over the drug use, and I expected a brawl in that locker room.
Luckily, Sam showed up to break his grandsons up from fighting. However, I think another fight will occur between the brothers, and I’m worried this will break them apart. They need to be united, but a wall is placed between them. Jonathan is allowing his emotions to guide him, and he needs to think clearly before he can indeed be free of the X-Kryptonite.

After being exposed for his mistakes, Kyle tries to reconcile with Lana. This storyline was brutal to watch in the last episode, and it was as fierce as in this episode. Kyle shows up unannounced to his home, pouring his heart out to Lana. I understand why he felt he needed to do this, but it’s clear on Lana’s face that this was the wrong timing.
Lana tells Kyle he needs to move out by the end of the episode. I predict that Lana will move on from Kyle, but this series is full of surprises. I may be wrong, but Lana has had problems with Kyle for years, and maybe this is the time for a change. Sarah seems to cope with her parent’s split, but this could lead her back down a dark path she recently walked.
Anderson, who has been a thorn in Superman’s side, made a choice that changes the entire flow of the season. He shoots Superman with Kryptonite, knocking him out. The shift is only occurring because Superman revealed that Bizarro was captured. If he wasn’t aware of this, I believe Anderson would have possibly helped Superman get the pendant back. Then again,
Anderson has not been trustworthy with his decisions since the season started.
Regardless of what Anderson told him, he may have still arrested Superman. Sam Lane, Clark’s father-in-law, needs to return to his job. Anderson being in Sam’s former position is just making things difficult, but this storyline could flow faster if Sam were there. Instead, Anderson is here to cause problems and make things difficult for our hero.
Multiple storylines that are engaging, thrilling, exciting, and excellent at times make this series stand out. However, I wish more shows gave each scene a purpose and furthered the storylines like Superman & Lois. I can’t praise this show enough for what it has accomplished, and I can see Superman & Lois continue for years to come. We care for all these characters, and the depth of these characters we see each episode keeps the show fresh.
About Superman & Lois
After years of facing supervillains, monsters and alien invaders, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books’ famed journalist Lois Lane come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever — dealing with being working parents in today’s society.
Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois worry about whether their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.
Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang and her Fire Chief husband, Kyle Cushing. The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah.
Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, Gen. Samuel Lane looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice.
Superman & Lois is available to stream on The CW now.
