Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois 2×5
“Girl… You’ll Be A Woman, Soon Review” Ahead

There are many options on where to start, but I want to start with Bizarro’s side of this episode. The show has set up Bizarro as our main villain, but with this show, nothing is guaranteed. It turns out he is a victim on his earth from none other than Ally Allston from his parallel world.

With the fortresses’ help, both versions of Clark can speak to each other, where we learn of his earth needed to be saved from Ally. I did not expect Bizarro and the cult storyline to intertwine in any way. Superman & Lois excels at giving us great reveals like this, making the series more compelling because of it. The possibilities of where these storylines are heading are endless.

The opening scene of this episode has a young Ally inheriting her father’s belongings, including a pendant tied to the cult, and now the mystery thickens. Where does the charm come from? Who discovered the ability to use it for “parallel earth” travel? We witness within the episode Ally forcing Chrissy to experience the “ascension” as she was drugged. This moment, in turn, makes Chrissy believe Ally is who Lois said she was, and now both are on the same side against Ally.

I’m happy the storyline of Chrissy being upset at Lois didn’t last too long; we had to get them on the same side again. I need all the answers now. I hate waiting, but this show isn’t wasting our time, so eventually, we will learn the truth. Bizarro is hunting Ally down, and in the middle of the episode before we learn the truth of what she has done on Bizarro’s earth. We have an intense fight between both Superman & Bizarro.

This scene is one of the best fights from the series, with its relentless hits between the two. The brawl lasted longer than I expected, and I was ecstatic it didn’t end quickly. The creators knew that the reveal of Bizarro, not being the actual threat, was going to be shown to us, so we needed this fight to happen now. Bizarro using his fire breath like a dragon was a standout moment from the showdown, and I couldn’t get enough of this fantastic scene.

The episode’s title refers to Sarah becoming a woman with her quinceañera happening in this episode. I thought the title suggested a minor scaled-back episode with the most focus on Sarah. I’m glad I was wrong with Bizarro, Ally, and Jordan/Jonathan; training occurred as well.

However, Sarah still received a significant amount of focus, which backfires with the reveal of what her father did. While outside during the party, Sarah reveals to Jordan that she is in a much better place now and advises Jordan on Jonathan’s behavior change after taking the drug X-Kryptonite. Jordan isn’t aware of his brother’s actions just yet, but he thinks Jonathan is in the same place Sarah was some time ago in terms of depression.

What comes next is a bombshell that changes everything for Sarah and her family. She overhears along with Jordan, her father, confronting a woman he had an affair with. She admits that Kyle, Sarah’s father, wanted to leave his wife for her. The Cushing family is falling apart, and I’m not sure what the future holds for Kyle in terms of his family life. Sarah’s mother, Lana, gives a heartwarming speech to Sarah at the party and shows how much Sarah means to her. This was a stand-out moment to display no matter what, they will be there for each other.

Unfortunately, we don’t get any continuation of this storyline after this point, but it’s safe to say there is a lot to unpack here because of Kyle’s giant mistake. Kyle, to me, was a pointless character in Season 1, but this gives meaning to him being on the show. Adding family drama is always a plus if it is impactful for the characters, and it sure is.

Jumping to Jordan training with Grandpa Lane, Jonathan tags along to set a baseline for Jordan’s abilities. We have seen Jonathan using X-Kryptonite, which gives him powers like his father and brother. He takes it and challenges Jordan to a fistfight to see who is the stronger brother. At this point, Jordan believes his brother doesn’t have abilities and doesn’t want to fight him. The fighting was intense as both kept hitting harder due to the other hitting harder back.

Unfortunately, Jonathan allows his emotions to drive his decision to take the drug, which will backfire on him tremendously. Jordan now believes the lie that Jonathan gave about him having powers. Jonathan needs to come clean, or else the X-Kryptonite may cause effects that can’t be undone.

I can’t get enough of this series, and I wish I had the chance to binge-watch this whole season. Storylines are coming together significantly, and the drama, emotion, and action elevate it to a high point. Next week will hopefully deliver another fantastic episode of Superman & Lois.

About Superman & Lois

After years of facing supervillains, monsters and alien invaders, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books’ famed journalist Lois Lane come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever — dealing with being working parents in today’s society.

Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois worry about whether their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older.

Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang and her Fire Chief husband, Kyle Cushing. The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah.

Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, Gen. Samuel Lane looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice.

Superman & Lois is available to stream on The CW now.
