What Works With Pieces of Her

Whenever you have a show or movie that requires viewers to go on a journey through time, it can be difficult to pull off. In order for Pieces of Her to play out the way it needs to, the audience must travel back and forth between the present and the past. Luckily this series makes it work, and it is done so in a way that allows the twists to slowly reveal themselves without being too confusing the understand. There are some moments that need to be watched closely, but more on that later.

The story itself is extremely captivating, and it can easily be seen why this book was developed into a series. Pieces of Her is one of those shows that is easy to binge, because you will be dying to see how it all plays out. The second one episode ends, chances are you will be diving right into the next one, right up until the last episode.

There are some truly intense moments here that are only heightened by the phenomenal cast. Of course Toni Collette is a great choice to play Laura — she is an absolute legend — but the cast surrounding her is just as amazing. Collette is not the main focus of the story though, that is Bella Heathcote’s Andy and she certainly carries this film. It is easy for viewers to relate to her because we are all uncovering the secrets together, right along with her.

Jessica Barden, who plays Jane, also gives an incredible performance in Pieces of Her. Due to spoilers, not much can be said about her in this review, but let’s just say her mannerisms and delivery are pure perfection.

What Doesn’t Work With Pieces of Her

While the majority of this thriller series really works, and will keep viewers on the edge of their seats, it is not without its flaws. The final episode just sort of ends, and audiences are left wanting more. It is a bit rushed and confusing in the final half hour — so much so that some people might have to go back and watch the last thirty minutes again to fully understand.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this show, which can be hard to follow at times unless you are paying close attention. That said, as we edge closer and closer to the finale, some reveals come into focus a bit sooner than they should, making it a tad predictable, and also making the eighth episode end on a bit of a flat note.

Overall Thoughts

Pieces of Her is an intense thriller that will have viewers on the edge of their seats as they try to unravel the mystery of Andy’s family. We go on a journey right alongside her, that is truly captivating thanks to all the incredible acting performances. Twists and turns throughout keep us guessing as theories must change due to big reveals and cliffhangers.

This series is extremely easy to binge and with just eight one hour long episodes, many will finish it in a day. Overall the final episode sticks the landing, but isn’t without its issues leaving on a bit of an ambiguous note and ending up a tad on the predictable side. Still, Pieces of Her is more than worth watching, especially for those who love this genre.

Intense at times, but slow at others. The ending just kind of happens, but the ride is worth the anticlimactic final ten minutes.
