INTERVIEW: Ramone Hamilton Voice of Coop in The Chicken Squad

Ramone Hamilton is incredibly talented and is the voice of Coop in Disney Jr.’s The Chicken Squad — coming May 14th.

The Chicken Squad is a new Disney Jr. show that is coming May 14th, and it is sure to be a hit with families! My daughters and I were lucky enough to sit down and talk with the voice of Coop, Ramone Hamilton, all about this show and his role. I think it is safe to say that they cannot wait to tune in even more now, and will never forget their time chatting with the extremely talented Ramone!

All About The Chicken Squad

Having seen just the trailer before going into this interview, we wanted to know how Ramone would describe The Chicken Squad to someone who doesn’t know much about it. Not going to lie, he has us even more hyped for it now!

“The Chicken Squad is about three sibling chickens – Coop, Sweetie and Little Boo. They’re neighborhood helpers who go around and problem solve and help all their animal friends. They teach lessons and they just have a lot of fun — along with their mentor, a retired search and rescue dog, Captain Tully.” – Ramone Hamilton

When asked what drew him to the role of Coop, Ramone says that he is a lot like him. He loves his family, his siblings, is a hard worker, and enthusiastic. Coop (and Ramone too!) also always tries his best at everything. This made him really excited to try out to be the voice of Coop, because he felt like he knew him and could connect to him already.

Voice Recording Sessions

Before the world changed in March of 2020, Ramone would get to record with his sibling costars, and he says he really misses that. It made it a lot more fun, and was easy for them to bounce things off one another. Ramone spent sometime recording at home, but since about January 2021 he has been able to return to recording in the studio — by himself and without his fellow cast members unfortunately.

Ramone even told us a super funny story about his The Chicken Squad costar, Maxwell Simkins. When they would record in Burbank, they would always make cookies for them (how can I get into voice acting please and thank you?) — delicious cookies as Ramone points out. He says their costar Gabby Graves wouldn’t eat them really, but he and Maxwell would “tear them up.”

Becoming a Disney Character

There are so many people out there that dream they will one day be a Disney character, and Ramone can now say that he is one! What an incredible feeling that must be, so of course we asked him about it.

“It’s really a dream come true. What made me want to get into acting was watching Disney. What all started it was watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Jessie, and Shake It Up — all the famous Disney shows. So to be on my own Disney series it’s really a dream come true and it’s like WOW, this is a real blessing from God.” – Ramone Hamilton

Well one thing is for sure, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person! Ramone took the time during the interview, which I hope you watch, to sing with my daughters. Oh yeah, as is his acting talent wasn’t enough, he has some pipes on him too! He is currently finishing up his first musical EP slated to be released in the Fall of 2021!

About The Chicken Squad

Inspired by Doreen Cronin’s popular children’s books, the series follows a trio of young chicken siblings -Coop, Sweetie and Little Boo – and their retired search and rescue dog mentor, Captain Tully. Together, they team up on problem-solving adventures in their backyard to help their animal friends, while modeling what it means to be good community helpers and finding the joy in assisting others.

Disney Junior’s egg-citing new animated comedy-adventure series “The Chicken Squad” premieres FRIDAY, MAY 14 (7:30 P.M. EDT/PDT), with two back-to-back episodes on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW.

A digital soundtrack, “Disney Junior Music: The Chicken Squad,” featuring the theme song and music from the series is also set for release Friday, May 14, on Walt Disney Records.
