Wander Darkly is a fantastic movie, but it can be a bit confusing, so I am going to break down the ending explained for you!
Wander Darkly is a great movie, if you understand it. It is one of those movie that you really have to pay attention to, especially if you want it to have the intended impact. Since posting my review, I have gotten some questions about it, so in this article I will give you the Wander Darkly ending explained. But be warned, there are massive spoilers, so don’t read this if you haven’t seen the movie yet.

Toward the beginning of this movie, there is a tragic accident that leaves Adrienne (Sienna Miller) unsure if she is dead or alive. When no one seems to see or hear her, she assumes she is a purgatory. But then she is found by her boyfriend, Matteo (Diego Luna). Since he can see and touch her, she starts to have doubts that she is dead.
Throughout the course of the movie they visit moments in their relationship together. They both remember the moments differently, and this helps explain their relationship and connection to each other. Eventually they both admit their faults in the relationship.
We then see him propose, and her accept, as well as their wedding. However, we then see her alone, still recovering from the accident. She calls Matteo but he is not answering. On her way to a doctor’s appointment they pass the scene of the crash. It is then that everything comes back to her.
The man that she thought was death in her visions is actually a homeless man that pulled her from the wreckage. He mentions that her husband died that night, and that he tried to save him. Of course, he was just her boyfriend, not husband, but this is how we learn that Matteo died and Adrienne survived.
Matteo’s spirit was guiding her back to life to be there for their daughter. The last few scenes go through the next year or so as Adrienne and her daughter remember Matteo. She speaks at his funeral, and then they take his ashes out to sea, to spread them.
I feel like this movie is a lot about soul mates, and how he was there to guide her, even after his passing, and bring her back to the land of the living.
