Adam Sandler: Funny Guy is a documentary about the comedian and what seems like his constant battle with negative reviews from critics.
It is no secret that Adam Sandler has a hit or miss career in movies. That is not to say that there isn’t an audience for him films, but quite often the critics go hard on him. As a critic myself I do feel that some of it has gone a bit far, however, I am a pretty big fan of Adam Sandler. I think he is one of the funniest guys on the planet, so when I was asked to watch the documentary Adam Sandler: Funny Guy, I jumped right on it!
This documentary goes through his career from beginning to current, and includes a lot of interview clips from different red carpet events. I like getting a closer look into Adam’s life and his relationships with other comedians such as Kevin James and Ben Stiller.
A Bit Repetitive
My biggest issue with this documentary is that it gets a bit repetitive. Not too bad but there are several clips that they play more than once. Which normally wouldn’t be a big deal but since it is less than an hour in length, it slows down the flow.
A small clip from Adam’s Hollywood Star speech is shown early on and then a much larger clip is shown later, keeping that small clip in. Things like this happen another couple of times but they aren’t as long or distracting as this one.
It doesn’t necessarily ruin the documentary, but it felt like a moment I could go get a drink, or check my phone, and not have to worry about missing something.
Overall Thoughts
While it did feel like this documentary doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, it was fun to watch. There was even a movie mentioned that I have never seen, which I immediately added to my watch list. Adam’s movies are not always a hit for me, as he does often play the same character, but the majority of them are.
If you are a fan of Adam Sandler, or even a little bit of his work, I think you will enjoy this documentary. It is less than an hour long and will likely make you appreciate all the hard work that he has put into his career.
