The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiere was last night out in California and first impressions are now it! I took to twitter to see what everyone was saying — and it seems to be split.
I am a huge Star Wars fan and am counting down the days until I can see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. I am going Thursday night at 6pm ET with a couple friends and then Sunday afternoon with my family. This month, we binged the Star Wars movies from Episode I to Episode VIII — and are ready for Episode IX. The first audience watched it at the world premiere last night, and I took to twitter to see their reactions.
Unfortunately, the reactions seem to be split — with some loving it, and some not liking it at all. I promise to bring you my honest review after I see the movie on Thursday, but for now, let’s check out what the critics thought.
The Good
#StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker…OH MY GOD! I am absolutely blown away! I’ve never been so satisfied by a film. This is the end of an era and a franchise that has defined my life and this did it justice in a way I didn’t imagine it could. You WILL cry…. pic.twitter.com/Jfx5bzdZOO

Wow. Wow. Wow. #TheRiseOfSkywalker delivers. So much happens in this film it’s hard to get my head around. But it gets this epic ending right. So right. JJ Abrams and team nails it. And gives a whole new appreciation for The Last Jedi in the process. Please avoid sppolers!

Epic. All of it. #TheRiseofSkywalker is a terrific finale that is just stuffed with so much of everything. Action, adventure — answers!! — humor, heart, love, and grit. I spent the entire second half with tears in my eyes – a wonderful way to end the Skywalker story pic.twitter.com/K2NhHSGWzM

Tweeting through tears – #TheRiseofSkywalker isn’t the best Star Wars film, but it is the ULTIMATE Star Wars film. A truly stunning finale to a nine film saga. Only weird thing was the amount of screen time spent on characters wolfing down raw vidalia onions. I ADORED this movie.

Just stepped out of #TheRiseofSkywalker. It’s an immensely satisfying and MASSIVE end to the saga. It somehow addresses issues, problematic characters, and most unanswered questions from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi too. pic.twitter.com/TMKeXCXuUx

I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I clapped, and, yes, I quibbled with a few things. But all in all #TheRiseOfSkywalker is one hell of a ride and one hell of an ending. Bravo JJ, KK, Daisy, Adam, and co. What a night! pic.twitter.com/QCCm8BOBlo

I realized within the first 20 mins of #StarWars #TheRiseofSkywalker that it was the best film in this trilogy, and it kept getting better right through to the end. THANK YOU!!! #Maytheforcebewithyou

All I can say is “wow.”#StarWars: #TheRiseOfSkywalker is many things: horrifying, hopeful, violent, lowkey horny, and full of the right kind of fan service.
But most of all, it’s a fitting ending for this incredible, 40+ year-long saga. pic.twitter.com/pd2GEwI7O3

I’ve mulled over #TheRiseOfSkywalker overnight and have come to the conclusion that I genuinely can’t fault a single second of it, which is an extremely rare statement for me to make 😂 Absolutely brilliant. If you like Star Wars then you’ll love it. Well done @StarWarsUK

The Bad
Yikes. Some of these Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker first impressions make me a bit nervous — but I am hoping I will love the movie!
At worst, I expected #TheRiseOfSkywalker to be a well made movie that I didn't like or whose story choices I disagreed with. I was not expecting a genuinely bad movie with video game plotting, thin characters, weak action and endless exposition of no consequence. Heartbreaking…

No matter how you feel about the individual movies, the new @StarWars trilogy that concludes with #TheRiseOfSkywalker is the WEIRDEST trilogy of films I've seen in my lifetime. None of them fit, and they all seem to actively dislike each other. Truly, head-scratchingly bizarre. pic.twitter.com/irq6gfkRxe

#TheRiseOfSkywalker is ummmmmm a lot! tons to love here, no shortage of crowd pleasing moments and twists and cameos, but also quite a bit to 🤔. some faves: jannah 💜, d-0 💚, finn of course 🖤. and what a lovely send off for our general leia 💕🚀💫

Well… #TheRiseOfSkywalker is a drastic departure from TLJ, but also not as invigorating as TFA. It is a movie packed with action (it’s seriously nonstop), but also jammed with fan service. @starwars fans – brace for the debates. pic.twitter.com/DjKo9ejRWw
