This 7 layer bar dessert recipe is the perfect treat to take with you to holiday parties! It is easy and delicious — and will have all your family and friends raving!
When I was a little girl, my mom would make this 7 layer bar dessert recipe for every holiday. I have a sweet tooth and this was one of my favorite treats to satisfy that. Now I make these 7 layer bars to bring with me to holiday parties, and they are always a hit!
Jump to RecipeTIP: These are VERY sweet (which I love), but not everyone does. So you might want to cut them in to very small bars. A lot goes a long way with these 7 layer bars!
What You Need:
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 3/4 cup shredded coconut
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
- 14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of butterscotch chips
- 1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)
In case you are dealing with someone with a nut allergy, you can always omit the walnuts. Or, if you don’t like them. I often put a smaller amount, about half a cup, so they are not too overwhelming. I do the same with the shredded coconut, since I am not a giant fan of coconut.
The best part about this dessert is that you can add more, or less, of things according to your taste. Every now and then I make them with chopped pretzels instead of walnuts. That is delicious too!
Seven Layer Bar Dessert Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt stick of butter and add to graham cracker crumbs.
Spread mixture in bottom of greased or non-stick pan.
Layer with chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped walnuts, and coconut.
Top with sweetened condensed milk. This will serve as the “glue” for your bars. It may look like a lot, but it will sink and spread throughout your pan while cooking.
Bake for 30 minutes.
TIP: When warm, score bars. If you do not do this, it can be very hard to cut once cooled.
This cinnamon swirl cheesecake is a great holiday dessert option too!
