It is finally almost here guys, the best time of year. When the flowers start to bloom and it becomes FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! This day is always the first Saturday of May and I get excited for it every year. Just head to your local comic book shop (you can find those participating by searching here) and grab yourself a stack of free comics! If you are already a comic book reader, or thinking about starting to read them, this is the day for you!
Now, admittedly the best comics are not free this day. There are usually 2 or 3 that are REALLY good – but there are lots that are great for young kids! However, a lot of comic shops have some pretty great deals and sales on Free Comic Book Day, so it worth a shot to see what is going on.
Free Comic Book Day Comics
There are a good amount of comic books available for free this year. Some comic shops only allow you a certain amount, however. Here is the full list of comics books available for FREE at participating comic shops this year. You can see the full list with photos of each book here, to help you decide. I have gone ahead and let you know which ones I plan to get for myself and my girls (ages 4 and 5) by marking them bold.

Free Comic Book Day is a great way to pick up a variety of titles and see what you think of them. Everyone has different tastes, so while I have suggested some to you, we may like different things. This is the perfect way to open your mind to the world of comic books and discover what you (and/or your kids) like!
My Recommended Current Comics
OK, so you all know I am a Marvel girl. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that the few MUST HAVE comic book titles I am about to list are all Marvel comics. There are some awesome stories going on in the Marvel Universe right now. You never know when they might be brought to life in the movies, so I highly recommend you start reading now.

Now I know that seems like a lot, and trust me, I even have to pick and choose every week when I hit the comic book shop. These are all the best titles (in my opinion) that are going on right now. If I had to narrow it down to a few favorites, it would be Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Spider-man/Deadpool. But boy, there is something awesome to say about each of these titles right now.
