Hypnotic‘s Alice Braga and William Fichtner discuss the twists and turns of the movie and what they would use their powers for if they were hypnotics.
Hypnotic comes from the mind of Robert Rodriguez. It is filled with twists and turns and no matter how hard you try, you will never figure it out until it is all revealed to you. That is why it works so well.
Mama’s Geeky sat down with William Fichtner, who plays the villainous Dellrayne, and Alice Braga, who plays Diana Cruz, to talk about the film. They also reveal what they would use the hypnotic power for if they had it.
Alice Braga & William Fichtner Talk Hypnotic
Mama’s Geeky: What was it about Hypnotic that made you want to be a part of it?
Alice Braga: I am big Robert Rodriguez fan. I have always admired him as a director, mostly because of the way that he challenged filmmaking with El Mariachi by doing everything and being an advocate for the pendant and independent filmmaking. Just grab a camera and tell your story. Don’t stop yourself from telling your story that you want to tell just because you don’t have the budget to the film.
It’s such a wonderful thing that he’s a filmmaker that has that energy of being an advocate for people telling their stories. I always admired him from afar. He produced a film that I was in, Predators, a long time ago, but I’ve never worked as an actress in his film. So when he sent me the script, saying that it was a long time in the making and he has been working on that script for many, many years, but hasn’t done it yet, I was very curious.
I know when Robert has an idea, he really puts his heart in it. And by reading the script, I was like, Oh, my God, that’s a lot of twists and turns and how the hell is going to do that? I think it was a challenge as an actress. You read it and imagine what he would tell and how he would do it. That’s was a long answer just to say that I would love to work with Robert.
Mama’s Geeky: William, you are such a great villain in this film. How did you find Dellrayne?
William Fichtner: This is me when I walk the dog every day. This is me. No. Long story short, it’s all the script. It’s such a fascinating read. You never get ahead of the story. I just kept wondering, because I had an idea of keeping an eye on a certain character, because that’s what they were asking me to look at. I had such fun the very first time I read it, because I’m like, Who is this guy?
I’ve said, a million times in my life, good scripts get better as you read them. And the more you read them, the deeper you go, when it just tells you more about the guy in the character. When we got around the shooting it, I had the script for about a month, and then I talked to Robert a few times.
Mama’s Geeky: Alice, what was it like working so closely with Ben Affleck in this film?
Alice Braga: It was it was a joy because he is a wonderful actor. And apart from being a wonderful actor, he is a brilliant writer, and a wonderful director. So having so much knowledge of filmmaking, having so much knowledge of what it takes to make a film. That is wonderful because you learn so much. It’s so inspiring seeing him and Robert exchanging ideas and thoughts on a shot or on a scene. It was really special.
Mama’s Geeky: If you were a hypnotic, would you use your powers?
William Fichtner: Yes, I would. 100%. I would have the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl. I would hypnotic everybody. I would hypnotic the entire world to root for them. And then I’d hypnotic that they won ninety-eight to nothing. Outside of that. No, I would never touch it.
Alice Braga: Oh, my God. Yeah. Well, first of all, I am afraid to fly, so I would ask someone to hypnotic me to not be afraid of flying. Then, I’m an activist for the climate, so I would start doing hypnosis to change some people’s minds about the climate crisis, and make some environmental changes in the world, so we can have a better future.
Hypnotic comes to theaters on May 12th.
