It’s been a long time coming, and now after the Fox buyout a few years ago, fans will finally be seeing Mutants joining the MCU. But when will that be? There are many possibilities, but these are our Top 5 ways I can see them joining this ever-expanding universe!

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS!

Apocalypse
The first-ever mutant is Apocalypse, and I had this small hope they would have referenced him in Moon Knight, but sadly that didn’t happen. We already saw Oscar Isaac as the iconic mutant back in 2016, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be the first appearance of a Mutant in the MCU.
His meaningful connection to Mutants, especially the X-Men, is a significant story point. I could see having him be the connection to having mutants make their presence known, or potentially his awakening could ignite the Mutant gene within people in the world.
Maybe that would explain why Earth 616 hasn’t been exposed to Mutants yet; perhaps we must wait for the first-ever one to appear. Of course, Apocalypse could be held off for some time as his presence is a threat to the entire world, but a villain of his caliber would be spectacular to bring to the MCU.

The Eternals
There was a big theory, and I even agreed that Mutants could have been introduced in the Eternals film released in 2021. The idea was Mutants would be an offshoot of the characters we see in Eternals. This is still possible as we don’t know precisely how Mutants will appear, so there is a chance they are connected somehow.
There are also a variety of characters associated with the Eternals that didn’t appear in the film, and one of them may do something to spark the Mutant gene to emerge. Kevin Feige is known not to follow the comics strictly, as he tries to make iconic storylines from the comics work in the MCU, which means making changes.
This could be that one change made, and not everyone will like it if it occurs, but only time will tell what that Mastermind has planned for us.

Deadpool 3
Switching gears to talking about potential projects, we know Deadpool 3 is in the works, and the assumption is he will tell the audience through a 4th wall break that Disney has bought Deadpool. The theory continues to say he will just appear in the MCU, and there wouldn’t be a logical explanation, or would there be?
Before Doctor Strange 2, the leading theory was that Mutants would appear via the Multiverse. However, that would cause an incursion based on what we learned in Multiverse Of Madness. Would Deadpool be able to just show up without consequences?
Only Kevin Feige knows how this will be accomplished since it seems Ryan Reynolds is the only actor we know of going from one universe to another. The third Deadpool film could be the first appearance of mutants on Earth 616. Hopefully, Deadpool watches all the movies and series to catch up on what’s happening to all the characters.

X-Men Film Or Series
Another route to introduce Mutants would be for the X-Men to just appear in their film or series. Depending on what characters would be involved would determine for me if I would prefer a show or movie. If we are going the classic roster of the X-Men, then just head straight to a film, but if we are maybe setting up an origin story for each character and then building the team. At that point, then a Disney+ show would work better.
Feige wants to flesh out these characters to establish the differences from the Fox era of X-Men. Casting the X-Men roster would be tricky, but I have faith they would nail it. It could be an amalgamation of having a limited series on Disney+, then transitioning to film for future stories.
Since Feige already dabbled slightly with Mutants with Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart in Multiverse Of Madness, X-Men could be the first mutants to make an appearance, but maybe not as a team quite yet.

Alpha Flight Disney+ Series
This would be a great way to introduce Mutants, but not the typical way people think. Alpha Flight can be marketed and planned out as another Avengers-type team. Unfortunately, we never got to see them appear during the Fox era, but now we can bring the coined “Canadian Avengers” team to the MCU.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy films proved to be successful for Marvel, which could be accomplished here with Alpha Flight. This would also be an excellent introduction for the MCU’s version of Wolverine, as he has a close relationship with the team. Finally, having Alpha Flight be a part of the expanding MCU would be a great start to adding Mutants to the world.
Kevin Feige was interviewed back in 2019, saying the way Mutants would be brought in would be very different, so my theories could be completely wrong. We are in 2022, and besides Professor X’s brief appearance, we haven’t seen them appear yet on the established MCU world of 616. There is always a plan, and Kevin Feige is the man with all the knowledge; soon, we will see how these characters connect.
